OMG is it even possible to get a legitimate answer for anything on the internet anymore without the top results being "written" by AI and full of ads top to bottom?? And no, I'm not using google search.

I was trying to find an explanation for why a Swainson's hawk mother would bring fresh twigs with leaves (and what species it would be) to a nest when the babies are just days away from fledging.

I'm adding a photo I from my website if anyone might be able to identify what she has in her mouth.

Yesterday while working on stuff around the house, I stopped to watch a couple of House finches have a territorial dispute in the overgrown front yard.
I walked over there just to take a look, and took a moment to examine the broomsage blue stem grass. I noticed the little white puffs of down.
I remembered where I had noticed it. In the house finch nest.
So this bird probably used cat hair and plant down in its nest. (the down might not have been intentional.)

Clearly we need to clean up our old whipper snipper cord or the birds will! Wondering if this was a magpie nest given the large but unfortunately dead nestling I found underneath this tree some time back. Seems to have fallen unused out of the tree.

Angry birds.

I saw one of these robins 200 ft away from it's nests when I was sitting in the backyard this evening. It landed on a post in the grapevine and was ruffling it's feathers at me to let me know it knew who I was I guess.
