  1. OMG is it even possible to get a legitimate answer for anything on the internet anymore without the top results being "written" by AI and full of ads top to bottom?? And no, I'm not using google search.

I was trying to find an explanation for why a Swainson's hawk mother would bring fresh twigs with leaves (and what species it would be) to a nest when the babies are just days away from fledging.

I'm adding a photo I from my website if anyone might be able to identify what she has in her mouth.

  6. Brood departed, an empty nest remains among the branches of a kumquat tree.
Interesting architecture does the bird weave—of sticks, leaves, cotton, and polyester.

  7. Yesterday while working on stuff around the house, I stopped to watch a couple of House finches have a territorial dispute in the overgrown front yard.
I walked over there just to take a look, and took a moment to examine the broomsage blue stem grass. I noticed the little white puffs of down.
I remembered where I had noticed it. In the house finch nest.
So this bird probably used cat hair and plant down in its nest. (the down might not have been intentional.)

  12. Two baby house finches, eyeballing me from their nest. There were four eggs in the beginning. There are now two babies.
It looks like they will be fledging soon

  17. I opened up another bird nest that had tits nesting last year, only to be faced by this. What the hell are these? Judging from the fresh nest material, birds started building but got scared away. Which I can understand in case of a small bird: even I, a large mammal did not dare digging in…

  22. Every year a swan makes their nest next to the bike path (or the automotive path or the canal).
And every year someone puts up a fence to guard the swan (guard the bikers? walkers?).
    Small nice things are good.

This little one is missing. It probably followed the rope and went outside.
