I called it on that bush. I couldn’t resist. I had to go look after I saw one carry a straw wrapper in there.
And I caught a mockingbird nest in the very beginning of its construction. Just the outer twig layer is fully constructed. -

Yesterday while working on stuff around the house, I stopped to watch a couple of House finches have a territorial dispute in the overgrown front yard.
I walked over there just to take a look, and took a moment to examine the broomsage blue stem grass. I noticed the little white puffs of down.
I remembered where I had noticed it. In the house finch nest.
So this bird probably used cat hair and plant down in its nest. (the down might not have been intentional.)

I’ll have to get a stepstool to get a better picture of the inside of the nest. But the house finches are starting nest two.
Edit add: see those long white hairs that formed the lining or part of the lining of the nest? Well there is a long-haired white cat that I’ve been running off for a couple of weeks. How much do you want to bet the two are related?

See this ugly steril looking landscaping bush? It’s behind a gas station. This is a great example of why you see Mockingbird’s everywhere. There is a Mockingbird nest in that bush.
I didn’t take pictures of the nest because I have found four previous ones already this spring three of them in bushes more or less like this one. But I could hear the babies. And a parent was very distressed about me being near that bush.

I opened up another bird nest that had tits nesting last year, only to be faced by this. What the hell are these? Judging from the fresh nest material, birds started building but got scared away. Which I can understand in case of a small bird: even I, a large mammal did not dare digging in…

Every year a swan makes their nest next to the bike path (or the automotive path or the canal).
And every year someone puts up a fence to guard the swan (guard the bikers? walkers?).
Small nice things are good. -
