  1. Are any of my followers writers looking for feedback or advocacy? My friend Léonicka, Canadian literary agent and brand-new lawyer, is open for consultation and contract work, and is especially interested in working with BIPOC writers. Check out her site for a list of her services: leonicka.com

  2. rootswoundswords.org/3dspace “3d Space by RWW is a non-academic literary arts offering that provides semester-long craft instruction, mentorship, and support to BIPOC writers ready to engage in a rigorous, creative, and care-centered writing program.” Course runs for three months and starts in September.

I was lucky enough to study with these folks before. I recommend their workshops for BIPOC writers. Scholarships available. Deadline is June 2. #BIPOCWriters #WritingCommunity #RootsWoundsWords

  3. I attended an editing workshop yesterday offered by Monique Franz of Kinsman Quarterly. It was about editing stories for submission into writing contests. She showed the rubrics used by the magazine to determine whether or not entries would make it to the next round. It was very informative, and with that and the feedback I’ve received from critique groups, I revised my #LandBack revenge story “The Tupilaq” into something much stronger and entered it into the Iridescence Award competition. kinsmanquarterly.org/iridescen #writing #WritingCommunity #WritingContests #revision #BIPOCWriters

  7. Want to read horror written by BIPOC authors? death In the Mouth Volume Two is in its final hours of funding, and it hasn’t quite gotten the numbers it needs. This will be a fantastic illustrated anthology. 8. How's our open submission call going in its first week? We definitely have more relevant submissions this time than last - many of them very exciting! - but we're still lacking submissions from Canadians and BIPOC writers. Please share our call with any Canadian and/or BIPOC writers in your network! 🙏

  9. I was one of the fellows for the 2023 Roots Wounds Words online writers’ retreat. I had an excellent time working with BIPOC writers and received plenty of useful feedback on my work. The retreat is happening again this coming January. If you’re a BIPOC writer, I recommend it. Some scholarships are available. rootswoundswords.org/applicati #BIPOCWriters #BIPOCAuthors #WritingCommunity #WritingRetreat

  10. Hi fellow book nerds! I'm trying to put together a Utopian Book Club (focused on novels and novellas). I want to include LeGuin's The Dispossessed and @pluralistic 's Walkaway, but from there I've got an endless list of mostly white dudes.

What cool utopian fiction by BIPOC writers have I missed out on?

  11. Three Good Things: The Ecofiction Writer Edition
Epic book day: got novel #1 (The Erenwine Agenda, fracking focus) layout output done for new edition to be published with my new name change (going back to my given name, Maia Chowdhury).
Did the “accept all changes” on novel #2 (Otter Coast, medical marijuana focus) and stripped the Word document of macros, ready for book layout. Pub date for Otter Coast: Dec 21!
And just picked up the printed first draft of novel #3 (Rail, high speed logistics focus)- super rough, finishing the first pass during Nanowrimo.
As I went to Staples to pick up the print I thought “I am a writer!” It only took me 3 novels to say so to myself (it’s in my bio and LinkedIn but to say it and mean it to myself is another thing).
Does that qualify as 3 Good Things? I think it does.

  12. Some content just for Mastodon: I've been thinking ahead to our next submissions period (date tbd). I want to balance our darker content with lighter stories. Some queer joy, some BIPOC excellence, in a climate justice context. We'll be looking mostly for novellas that make the most of the form with experimentation in structure or language. I'd love to see your weirdest/most daring stuff! Anyone working on anything like this?

  13. This is a #ShortStory of mine.
A woman facing death agrees to have her mind "captured": copied into a supercomputer. What happens when a being is still human, but has no body anymore?
