This is equally true in the #biotic environment (the “#biosphere”), consisting of microorganisms, plants, animals, and the human body; in #abiotic (lifeless) environments, such as the #geosphere, the #lithosphere, the #hydrosphere, and the #atmosphere; and in the entire #ecosphere, comprising ecosystems composed of biotic and abiotic elements in complex interrelationships. Such ecosystems, large and small, for all their components, also interact in intricate mutual relationships.

There are five so-called "#garbage #patches" in the earth's oceans – areas where #currents concentrate surface and near-surface #trash (particularly #plastics).

Obligate #neustonic #organisms – #animals and #plants that must live at or very near the ocean surface – also concentrate in those locations.

#Saguaro 🌵 are an important part of the #biotic community in the #Sonoran #Desert 🏜️. They are a vital part of the diet of #Indigenous people in the area.

Due to #climate #change-related shifts in #weather, the mature individuals are no longer reproducing. They are dying without being replaced.

The #IUCN currently lists them as "least concern" but also "declining." The most recent assessment is from 2017.
