When Night Unfurls its Splendour

Like the #bioluminescent mushroom, the blue glow in this little #frog’s eyes and body is another type of natural #luminescence. It occurs when a living organism has a chemical surface that absorbs light at one wavelength and re-emits it at another. There are many things that can fluoresce, including us.

#dream: I see an #insect fluttering on the floor (an #alderfly or an #antlion or the thing at the end of #TwinPeaksReturn Episode 8). I reach out for it, and it starts to emit light from a #bioluminescent organ on top of its head. Its feathery #antennae cast shadows that look like a detailed (and annotated) pen-and-ink #drawing of the insect's own head. I get my phone to take a photo, but by then it's stopped emitting any light, and it's become a small spaniel which starts barking at me.
