A study of 123 participants of varying sex and BMI found that a third-generation epigenetic measure of biological age (DunedinPACE) varied with the composition of the gut microbiota, as well as with BMI and blood glucose. Gut microbiome species were identified that were associated with either faster or slower aging.

  2. A meta-analysis of 140 studies with over 65,000 individuals evaluated different epigenetic clocks in relation to ethnicity and socioeconomic status. Newer epigenetic clocks yielded stronger associations between measures of marginalization and biological aging. Epigenetic markers of biological aging showed up in children of families with low socioeconomic status, and these persisted into adulthood.
