I'm happy like a small child to have found these #treasures at our international #embroidery festival! So great for my #BiodiversityShrines!

Even more important are the talks: With an author of embroidery books who sold these "scraps", and the employee of the #naturepark was just as enthusiastic as I was and asked me if I would like to join her in organising children's courses with #handicrafts on #biodiversity. Oh yesss! 🥰

Today, I finished a new one of my #BiodiversityShrines feat. Jordanita subsolana, a #butterfly now extinct in our region. My #shrines are a mixture of #paperArt #nature, elements of #culturalHeritage materials and "civilisation" #waste, like the 8 cm wide cheese box and the precious #plastic-cement-waste. My inspirations come from #klosterarbeiten, #reliquaries #naturalHistory #museums and my brain.

My work today on the #BiodiversityShrines was mainly the old technique of #perlage = #beading. On social media it's often called #FrenchBeading, but in France, we don't say that. Differences in beading technique are less national than temporal. Victorian techniques, f. e., differed from those of the Renaissance. Perlage was traditionally used for costumes, headdresses or so-called #klosterarbeiten like #reliquaries. 1/2 #LostSpecies vanish like a #cigarette. This was my first connotation when I discovered some #vintage cigarette boxes for my #BiodiversityShrines. Inspired by ancient #klosterarbeiten, they contain fantasy species, precious materials like #perlage and "civilisation" #waste. I mostly work on 2-3 #BiodiversityShrines at a time. Colias palaeno once was a typical #butterfly of the #Vosges, today it is probably #extinct. Its problem: #wetlands as habitat were destroyed or vanish now by #droughts. The butterfly feeds exclusively on Vaccinium uliginosum, but this plant needs wetlands and colder climate. #InverteFest Directly from my #wunderkammer! A veritable #bookworm in all phases of life. This Helluo librorum was found in a French private #library and prepared by a #museum employee.

The larvae are exceptionally shy of light. Studies by the Page Institute for Global Lignine Research show: Imagines are extremely rare, they only develop with adequate reading. Feeding alternative: #Brain #orchids.
