Alpine peatlands under pressure: do maps tell the whole story?
These valuable areas are mostly small, scattered and difficult to access, so up-to-date information is often lacking. An international research team developed a cross-border approach to identifying these areas and made comparisons with official maps. Their model found many peatlands were smaller than previously mapped – particularly in areas where aerial photographs reveal visible signs of disturbance: https://www.uni-goettingen.de/en/3240.html?id=8316
