  1. How did Jakob Lorber have a tablet? In the 1800s?

He died in 1864 in Graz.

In his book "12 Hours", he describes looking at his tablet to see any place on Earth. Like we might use Google Maps today, he could look at his tablet and see whatever God wanted to show him. Yes, God gave him the use of that tablet.

  7. Bing Blogs: Bing Maps Goes Global with TomTom Orbis Addresses. “We’ve completed the worldwide rollout of TomTom Orbis Maps Addresses — capping a nine-month effort that began in June 2025. This is the largest upgrade to Bing Maps address data in years!”

  8. Search Engine Roundtable: Microsoft Testing Bing Maps Beta. “Microsoft has been beta testing a new Bing Maps interface for the past couple of months. I just recently became aware of it and wanted to share some screenshots of it.”

  9. #BingMaps, incapable of figuring out the shortest route, without telling it to not use the highway.
Why wasn't the 25km one in the first offer, when the 27.9km one was?
Also, highways are so inefficient (by travel distance). Like, I can get to my destination and back in 52km, or in 80km. Sure, I'm two minutes faster, but who cares?

  10. Our #OSMCha instance makes it easy to inspect large changesets for subtle changes. Sometimes, those changes look very wrong, but only because modern aerial imagery doesn’t line up with the historical features being mapped.

Now you can visualize changesets against existing #OpenHistoricalMap coverage to see how it all fits into the map we’re building. Click the 🗺️ button to set the basemap back to #Mapbox or #BingMaps imagery like before.

  15. #30DayMapChallenge 🗺️ Day 9️⃣: #AI only

This day’s prompt is the one that I will not fully follow, due to moral reasons. (See later in the thread for why.)

Anyway, I’ve done something AI-adjacent and did a couple of maps comparing the ML-generated buildings from Microsoft / #BingMaps and the crowdsourced ones from #OpenStreetMap.

This 1st map is of #MetroManila, #Philippines. Hex cells that are more reddish have more area covered by Bing while more bluish cells are dominated by OSM.

  16. I suspect that experiments in #Brizzle and #Yorkshire might cause problems for this newly discovered law of Bing/AA/Google Maps #physics that requires that any journey in England involve either #HS2 or #Luton.

I predict that our Higgs Boson equivalents will be #Leeds and a very hard to discover rule involving *nearly* going to #Swindon.

Then Mancunian JourneyCartoGraphics will come along and turn everything on its head, like.

  18. “Google Slides on Report Samsung May Choose Bing For Search”

    What I find most interesting:

    - This stems from Microsoft folding in ChatGPT
    - If Samsung does this, will it bring new life to Bing Maps (maps.bing.com)?
    - Might Apple consider this?

  19. Everyone uses Google Maps.
Lots of people use Apple Maps.

But anyone out there use Bing Maps?

    bing.com/maps

I'm curious if Microsoft adding ChatGPT to Bing will bring new life to Bing Maps.

And can ChatGPT bring a competitive advantage to Bing Maps?

For extra credit, look up Apple Park in Bing Maps. There's a single 1-star review. Heh.

  20. “[…] a new participant has entered the ecosystem with parasitic intents. It tries to capture away precisely what makes #OSM strong: the contributors.”

I’ve only used Open Street Maps in a tertiary way, through #maps.me, but it is an invaluable community-driven project. As @siegi mentions, “embrace; extend; extinguish” is classic #predatory #Microsoft, I’m appalled that they are still at it.
