Me explaining UK govt. to an American:
So you have the Prime Minister, who is the leader of the party with the most seats in Parliament. Then you have the Figurehead Of State, who is currently King Charles IIIrd and only gets to go along with what his advisors tell him to do, with the PM being the main advisor. Then you have the Supreme Overlord, who is currently Count #Binface, and he can project sub-overlords (like a clone, but holographic) to run in elections such as the one in Clacton.

OK, I feel I've been watching too many videos about #BinFace & #ClactonOnSea (they should permanently #camelCase their name). But I feel Americans have know what a bin is since at least the 1970s. I mean, the USA doesn't mean the exact same thing, but it's close enough that there is no confusion.
Are there British words that would confuse me? Yes, yes they are. But it's also a #hoagie, not a bloomin submarine sandwich.

Binface is a fantastic and important opportunity to question the ridiculousness of what politics and government has become, from a much wider perspective*.
But there's been far too much opinion taking him a little too seriously. "Well actually, some of his policies..."
Which is even worse, because it dismisses his value AND plays into the hands of post-truth politicians.

So let me make sure I understand this Clacton. You had the chance to toss out a racist AND make commentary on the state of Parliament and instead, you re-elected the bigot? And I thought it was just us Americans who were fearful, stupid voters.

#Clacton by-election: #Farage's big win.
This is NOT what I wanted. I backed #Binface.
But it is what the people of Clacton made happen.

Compare 2026 with 2024.
Turnout FELL by 23.6%, from 45,958 to 35,111.
Nigel Farage's number of votes UP from 21,225 to 22,239. A gain of 1,014.
Farage's share of the votes rose UP from 46.2% to 63.34%.

The photo shows some of the candidates at the Clacton by-election count, waiting for the results to be announced.
"Our" man, #CountBinface is unmistakeable in the line-up. Very noticeable for his absence is the by-election winner, Nigel Farage. Farage was too much the coward to even show at the count.
Farage got 22,239 votes, 63.3% on a 44.4% turnout. #Binface got a very respectable 9,455 votes (26.9%), he will get his deposit returned. We likely will see Binface again.

@syn because we allow jokers a platform on mainstream media (I am guilty of finding the #Binface escapade rather amusing) which amplifies them -- at the detriment of other serious parties that aren't as sound-bitey (eg Greens, LibDems).
I'd like to think that it's entirely this media driven buzz that caused the rise of Reform to where it is but I'm afraid we have a persistent undertone of xenaphobia masked as "nobody things about normal people".
Political satire is a healthy thing but when mainstream news outlets are indistinguishable from Dead Ringers, we have a problem.

Not at all, we are looking forward to seeing a corrupt populist politician facing an inquiry into corruption. He'll probably blame it all on an "establishment witchunt" though.

We know who the real winner was in #Clacton last night!
For me it wasn't #Farage he used the people of Clacton for his own vanity and they fell for lies again. He started again by lying! He has lost his credibility after he decided to run away and argue with a bin.
I wouldn't be gloating if I were him - one in four people in Clacton preferred Count Binface, that tells me all I need to know!
