A core component of #Zionist ideology is that they refuse to live in an Arab/Palestinian majority society. That makes Zionism utterly incompatible with the most basic human rights. It means that Israel is constantly widening the conditions of immigration to incentivize more and more #European settlement, while increasing their criminal practice of non-consensual sterilization of non-white communities such as Ethiopians and Eritreans. Some studies suggest a majority of Russians moving there today are not even Jewish. Having spent time defending Palestinian demonstrators in Hebron, ive seen the large settler recruitment tours, many of which are full of redneck Americans that don't appear to be in anyway #Jewish from my experience of growing up Jewish in the American south.
Ethnonationalism is never a good thing. Palestinians were incredibly welcoming when we first arrived, until Zionist terror attacks and land grabs in the 20s and 30s triggered the Arab revolts. And yet, given all that they have gone through, the 2018 Hamas Party program still dedicates itself to forming a democratic government where any Israeli who is prepared to follow the law — including their planned land reform — will be given citizenship.
Following Edward Said, Steve Salaita and my professor Judith Butler's lead, in the naughties and early 10s, I was a proponent of the so-called #binational solution. But after spending time there, and hearing out the frum community that considers a stare of Israel to be a sacrilege on the Jewish faith, I honestly believe that what is needed is a simple state of Palestine. #Palestine is generic and of long historical precedent; #Israel is an ethnonationalist colonial program that exists in stark violation of Jewish law. It is irrational, and only exists to give a olive branch to a fascist ideology that has proven to be entirely genocidal.
