  1. Fourth coffeeneuring ride was with my daughter. She chose a Starbucks that’s not too far for her. I had a black coffee and she got a pumpkin spice creme frappuccino that she ended up not liking. She was a champ on the bicycle.

  2. #Biketober #rant - The site LoveToRide.net doesn't really work for me because the predefined bike ride types are very limited:
    - To/from work
    - To/from school
    - From A to B
    - Fun/fitness
    - With kids

"From A to B" is the one I use most and needs to be broken down because for me it describes travel to an errand, whether it is going to the grocery store, going to events, going to a restaurant and more.

  4. @ajft carrying camping stuff isn't so bad, i've got a fairly good setup from hiking / motorcycle touring stuff (seen here on a test ride down by the Yarra)

I've been getting a bit excessively competitive on the #biketober thing with a colleague who has a slightly longer commute so naturally I have to find excuses to go home the long way :-)

  8. A long time ago there was the "National Bike Challenge" in the United States. It motivated a lot of people to bicycle because it was about the most miles, not the fastest. Every mile counted. The goal was a certain amount from May until the end of September.

It was organized by different organizations throughout the years.

Now #Biketober by "Love to Ride" seems to be the remnant of it, with the original URL going to their website.

  10. @ascentale @bikenite @footsteps #bikenite A1: G'day as (mostly) always from Melbourne, Australia. Yep, I'm currently doing #biketober lovetoride.net/ with the goal of commuting entirely by bike this month (I have an office for a bit, so it's a novelty for me) and also riding at least a bit every day I'm not at work. I'll also probably get around to taking a nice photo for #coffeeoutside coffeeoutside.ridewithgps.com/ although I might not get around to posting it to instagram.

  12. @ascentale @bikenite @footsteps Posting from Smyrna, GA as per usual. I normally participate in #Biketober (sign up for "Love to Ride" below and log a ride, you'll get me some points too if you use my link!) with my work place, and last year I did #Coffeeneuring for the first time, so I'll probably do that again this year!

  15. Friday started the fourth and final phase of my training cycle targeting the Atlanta Track Club’s Grand Prix Cross Country 5k.

Taper week gets a little weird with both the Winship 5k and the start of Biketober, but I have a plan.

  17. @ascentale @MartyCormack A7. I've never set any year-long goals, but I do generally set some sort of goal for the yearly Biketober competition. This year my goal was just to ride every day in October, which I accomplished, and to ride my first century, which I did not accomplish. It looks like I road a little over 1000 miles this year, so maybe I'll make my goal next year to actually do some pleasure rides and hit 2000 and do the century.

  19. I've decided to blog my Coffeeneuring rides; it's not likely going to be of interest to most folks, but there will be bicycle rides and complaining about Cobb/Atlanta infrastructure:

  21. @ascentale #bikenite A1: Melbourne, Australia. It's #biketober here [1] and I haven't really gotten into it this year but it's still a thing. #ridetowork day [2] is the 16th and, well, I'm working from home these days but it's what got me back into biking so I'll probably mark the occasion with a pre-work loop. And #ridewithgps are doing their #coffeeoutside thing [3] which I'll do something for tomorrow I reckon.

  23. Tomorrow begins the annual Biketober challenge! Join us in recording your rides next month and compete for your favorite organizations, or just yourself! The best thing about Biketober is that it's not about the miles, it's about how *often* you get out and ride and how many new riders you recruit, so join us in getting people to ride their bikes more!

  24. @vwdasher hmmm, I decided to do this #biketober thing specifically to encourage myself to get off my arse on days like today so ... I guess I'd better pick my #cycling moment 🙂
