  1. LOL, so, cancelled the order which wasn't shipping from Pennsylvania (major delay, no order acknowledgement), and ordered for a little bit more from the local company (which said it would have to ship from their Nevada location)... and the product is now reportedly shipping from Lancaster, PA. 😬

(now thinking all of these folks have these in stock as drop shipped items).

  2. Oooh, there's a whole VICE series on the racer whose name is on this bike!

  3. Hmm, someone was towing a trailer with this... the derailleur I have has a different size bolt than what is on there, so can't just put it on. Will have to poke around Sheldon Brown to figure out what that is about. Chain is absolutely wrapped around everything. #BikeRestoration #BikeTooter

  4. Vintage Matrix IsoC rims. Front is 700x25 back is 700x23, but people online say these can take 700x28's. Tires are very worn in back. Bontrager Select 8. Espoir Sport on back. #BikeTooter #BikeRestoration

  5. Unsurprisingly, no grease in here. But, no wear, either. #BikeTooter #BikeRestoration

  6. Swapped clipless pedals on one of the curb bikes to Chester RaceFace pedals I snagged from the "used pedals" pile at the LBS for cheap. These are great all around pedals for around town, broad platform with spikes. (Not great if you tend to put pedals into your calves though). The left pedal is "righty loosey" on bikes. Required WD40 and a rubber mallet on the wrench to remove the left pedals on both bikes. #BikeRepair #BikeRestoration #BikeTooter

  7. Ends up that all four of these were loose and rattling around. Put a bit of grease on all of them and tightened with the correct Park Tool (CCW-5, which removes and attached cranks... also need a crank extraction tool usually).. #BikeTooter #BikeRepair #BikeRestoration

  8. I've spent the past 3 days restoring a semi-abandoned I got for 30€ which had been left outside for 2 years, to make it a good commute vehicle for my best friend. Sadly, I didn't take too many progress photos of the but here's the final result!

  9. May have found a container for a future ebike battery. Old cigar/tobacco box. I suppose I can paint it another color, if I don't want to advertise whatever product this is, LOL. #bikerestoration

  10. Hmm, wonder how I will open this ebike hub. Pretty stuck. PB Blaster time, probably! I was going to leave it be, but the crank hub and front wheel hub were xpmpletelt devoid of grease, and this can't be much better. 2010 technology... #biketooter #bikerestoration #ebike

  11. Sigh. So much work to remove this paint completely, yet, partial paint removal drives me to OCD. (No financial reward in stripping this down to bare metal and repainting...only my likely annoyance if the finish shows the unevenness later, LOL) #bikerestoration #BikeTooter

  12. Habe mal angefangen ein paar Teile an den Rahmen zu bauen um einen Eindruck zu bekommen, wohin optisch die Reise geht und ob bzw. wobei Probleme auftauchen.

  13. Free 1974 Fuji Special Tourer bicycle restoration, done! It's kinda loud, ha ha. My first attempt at repainting a bicycle with a custom paint job. #BikeTooter #BikeRepair #BikeRestoration

  14. CW: Bicycle chatter tainted by random doomy thoughts

Shifter cable came, hooray! Will post a photo of the restored bike when there's better lighting for a photo later this afternoon.

(It was a race in my mind between "shifter cable arrives" and "somebody launches a nuke while it's still in the mail" 🤪 )

  15. Bei neuen #Bremsbelägen immer gut #einbremsen.

Bei neuen #Bremsscheiben auch! Das weiß ich jetzt. ;-)

  18. Progress on the bicycle restoration continues. 1974 Fuji that was free from Craigslist in many, many rusty pieces. Brake cable came, blue! Chain secured. Still waiting for the shift cable. #BikeRestoration #BikeRepair #BikeTooter

  19. (Update: decided to go for it, blue brake cables and blue shifter cables, hopefully similar blue LOL... ordered off eBay from random small businesses).

    Today's hard #BikeRepair #BikeRestoration decisions:

    1. Switch out the 1974 shifter and brake cable housings? (from 1974, white, yellowing)

    2. If so, go for blue (complementary to yellow and orange), or back to white?

(currently leaning towards blue, since I just custom painted this bike, might as well go 100% on the non-standard colors LOL)

    #Random #pondering

  20. Current status on my 1974 Fuji bicycle rebuild. Need to pull the rear wheel again and re-center the axle, I should have measured the original bolt distances from other side. Too much bolt on the freewheel side. Need to reconnect shifters, brakes, and mount a chain. But will fix the axle first. #BikeRepair #BikeRestoration #BikeTootern

  21. Disaster- stripped a bolt! But then I remembered the metric tap and die I bought ages ago in a garage sale!! Saved! (Irreplaceable part, too, probably... strangely shaped pin for the cranks). #BikeRepair #BikeRestoration

  22. Also applied 1K clearcoat. The label says dry in 1 hour, but my experience with the fork says to wait until tomorrow for any serious handling to prevent dings. The clear coat on the fork is impressively robust, it really makes a difference in the repainting. #BikeRestoration #painting

  23. Re-branded the FUJI bike I am restoring, just because. It needed new paint, so not true to the original paint scheme. #BikeTooter #BikeRestoration

  24. Reassembled the front fork, at least. New Kool Stop brake pads. Clearcoat applied to the fork, but still curing. Learned I definitely need the frame to be 100% dry before clear coat, otherwise you risk cracking your paint when the clear coat softens it temporarily. #BikeRepair #BikeRestoration #BikeTooter

  25. Just realized I have a bicycle saddle (from the garage sale bike I bought for $50 -- replaced with a Brooks) which is marred by some wayward housepaint, BUT I CAN CUSTOM PAINT IT TO MATCH the new paint job on the vintage FUJI bike I am restoring. 🤯 #paint #bikerestoration

  26. Next step on the bike project: reapplication of branding. Not necessary, but it seems like a nifty thing to preserve the original branding of a vintage bike with vintage style matching brand decals. Will sand the paint below with 2000 wet sand, wipe with microfiber, then put these on first, then clear coat the whole bike.

    #BikeRestoration #BikeProject #BikeTooter

  27. Well, let's see if I have to pull out a hair dryer tomorrow or not. Finish visually looks really clean. Still pondering the second tone, orange. #BikeRepair #BikeRestoration #BikeTooter

  28. Looks like I have more orange and yellow paint and only a little red paint. Maybe I'll do this...

Looks like they did a yellow undercoat, and then applied the orange. Or, I could do a yellow undercoat and then apply the red sparingly. 🤔

    #random #bikerepair #bikerestoration

  29. Hmm, the new free Fuji bike appears to almost be an exact clone of a vintage Schwinn, exact same frame geometry. #BikeRestoration #BikeTooter

  30. This apparently is what a mint condition one of these looks like. These bikes are essentially worthless on the market, and of no special note, so I am thinking I will strip it down and repaint it a new color, so I can chalk up "repainted a bike" on the experience list. I imagine it's not far off from repainting a ham radio case. The main issue here is properly stripping 1970's paint (leaded) off... Probably will take everything apart, derust it, and then Citru-strip the paint... repaint the frame, and then reassemble while the rest is sitting in rust remover. The other question is what (free) spraypaint I have and what color it is. I am tempted (as usual) to paint it a bright color, but also have seen some neat two-tone painted bikes on YouTube. #pondering #BIkeProject #BikeRestoration
