Love the last lines of Sheila Packa's poem "Not Forgotten", about her father teaching her to ride a bike:

"That he could hold me was a given
that he could release me was a gift."

This one's in my second collection of bike poetry links http://bikestylespokane.com/2023/07/27/more-poems-on-the-bike-rack/.

Reading poetry this morning I ran across "Machine" by Michael Donaghy, which I included in my first round-up of bicycle poems.

"So much is chance,
So much agility, desire, and feverish care,
As bicyclists and harpsicordists prove

Who only by moving can balance,
Only by balancing move."

A Maya Stein poem for #VerseThursday: "trust me, I don't know what I'm doing". It isn't a poem "about" bicycling but there's a line in it that I loved (of course):
"I know that riding a bicycle makes me braver
than yesterday"

Just in time for #VerseThursday, I published another collection of poems involving bicycles. Enjoy!

Two blog posts with poetry for #WorldPoetryDay: poems in which bicycles appear http://bikestylespokane.com/2022/12/10/i-think-therefore-i-ride-a-bike-rack-of-bicycle-poems/ and ones with a transportation element somewhere in the poem http://bikestylespokane.com/2023/03/18/safe-passage-through-countless-intersections-transportation-poetry/.

@MrPDaniel I have to like a poet who has bicycles showing up in more than one poem. #BikePoems #Poetry

@JeniParsons Aha, thanks! http://famouspoetsandpoems.com/poets/john_betjeman/poems/826 for others who might spot this.

I started collecting poems with bicycle references a while back http://bikestylespokane.com/2022/12/10/i-think-therefore-i-ride-a-bike-rack-of-bicycle-poems/. Now working on a second list that's growing. Have any favorites? Doesn't have to be "about" bicycling; could be that bikes appear in passing, riding is used as metaphor--you know, POETRY.

Another #VerseThursday item: my bike rack of bicycle-related poetry http://bikestylespokane.com/2022/12/10/i-think-therefore-i-ride-a-bike-rack-of-bicycle-poems/.

Still collecting these--have any favorites to share? Doesn't have to be "about" #bicycling; a #bike reference in passing counts too. Especially interested in any that are explicit about different types of bikes/trikes.
