A4. Riding as the sweep for both of the #eastbaykidicalmass rides this year has to be my group riding highlight. The next Kidical Mass will probably be at the City of Berkeley's Winter Festival on December 13.

I also have gone on a couple of #BikeEastBay group rides so far this year, and those were a lot of fun!

I didn't know it was World Bicycle Day - I ride pretty much every day. Today, I happened to notice that I earned a badge on Garmin Connect. So there. #garmin #beatyesterday

Next up is a meeting with my city's mayor to ask why his constituents have fewer opportunities to be heard, why he deprioritized Safe Routes to School in favor of a street sweeper, and what he plans to do if ICE/HSI kidnaps somebody in the city.

#Oakland doesn't even pretend to enforce laws against delivery vehicles parking in bike lanes.
0 tickets were issued for bike lane violations to the big delivery companies from 2010-2022.
And only 33 were issues for other parking violations.

Another bike lane video from yesterday. There is 20 feet of legal curbside parking next to these two empty pickup trucks, but their owners left them parked in the bike lane anyway, because they know the City of #Oakland tolerates flagrant illegality like this. This part of 38th Ave almost always has several vehicles blocking the bike lane, and some drivers even use it for overnight parking, because they know they won't be ticketed, never mind towed. #BikeOAK #BikeOakland #BikeEastBay #BikeLanes #Cycling

Drivers are always innovating new ways of scaring cyclists. Yesterday, right after I had ridden around one empty car parked in the Telegraph bike lane, the driver parked in the bike lane 30 feet ahead of it suddenly put his car in reverse as I approached it from behind, only putting his foot on the brake AFTER his Prius started moving backwards. (He ended up making an illegal U-turn after I passed him, so I'm chalking this one up to sheer lack of driving skills, since he probably didn't mean to reverse at all.) #Oakland #BikeOAK #BikeOakland #BikeEastBay #BikeLanes #Cycling

Nobody expects the Berkeley inquisition.

Actually, it is sadly predictable. "Progressive" cities like #Berkeley are now full of wealthy liberals with "THINK GREEN" bumper stickers on their Priuses and Subarus, who write a check to the Sierra Club with one hand while shaking a pitchfork with the other when anyone tries to take away any parking spots for a bike lane. #BikeEastBay

Today a driver in San Leandro cut me off by swerving into the bike lane to get around other cars, then for good measure accelerated and swerved again around a turning car in order to run a red light. Luckily it wasn't too close a call because I wasn't right next to him. #Cycling #BikeEastBay

It seemed like drivers were behaving especially badly on the roads today. I'm having trouble deciding which incidents to leave on the cutting room floor as I sort through all my video LOL. Fortunately there were no collisions or injuries. #Cycling #BikeEastBay #BikeOAK #BikeOakland

A couple routine examples from yesterday of why cyclists should avoid riding in the door zone. These weren't close calls, but if I'd been riding closer to the parked cars, they could have been, and even so, I was being careless enough that I swerved a bit in each case. #Cycling #Oakland #BikeOakland #BikeEastBay #GoOutside

Oaklandside has a very thorough recounting of the automotive attacks on bike riders on Friday and Saturday, which were even more extensive than I realized. Impressive work by activists (and the reporter) to gather all this info.

I hope these incidents light a fire under #Oakland #Emeryville & #Berkeley politicos to get more serious about car violence, whether intentional or accidental. Not holding my breath, though. #BikeOAK #BikeEastBay @BikeEastBay
