The actors and writers don't want to back down because if they do, it's their livelihoods and the ability to earn a living wage for just about any writer or actor in the industry. They're trying to stop present exploitation AND future exploitation.
The writers and actors want to be fairly compensated for what they create. The studios want to kill the geese that lay the golden eggs.
(Also, smaller studios like A24 have agreed to the unions' demands and so are continuing to make movies. Which proves - again - that it isn't impossible. The #BigStudios are just assholes.) -
