We had a rest day, or more accurately a free day, in the middle of the week. I headed out to tag the Bigfoot Trail before some peakbagging and got three takers for the escapade. We went up Sugarloaf Mountain, pondered Minnie Lake, then even more climbing to Solomon Peak.

The second day backpacking, there was much ridge views and even a peak to bag (Rattlesnake Mountain) along both the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail and the Boundary National Recreation Trail.

Days 4+5: back at the trail work, this time getting out to a fabled area of Cedar Basin. Well, at least someone many of us knew had hiked the area and said it was a particularly nice spot.

Day 3 was moving day and had lots of free time, so I got to hike the Wilderness high point, which happens to be the Mendocino National Forest high point too!

Foxtail pines around the very top of Mendocino National Forest. This was the rest day hike while working on the #BigfootTrail. This part is along the Ides Cove National Recreation Trail and it looks a lot more like an NRT ought to now, too. (And it'll likely get even better this week.)

We cleared Whitethorn Ceanothus from the #BigfootTrail in the northern Yolla Bolly wilderness. The California Conservation Corp joined us on Friday. They may have wondered if a judge had sentenced us to community service in the hot sun!

Day 2 backpacking South Fork was actually spent on Smoky Creek where the Bigfoot Trail climbs away from the river. I hiked up to the trailhead, getting in some views, before returning to the river.

Heading out of Seiad Valley during 100+ F heatwave: the Klamath River, a welcome spring near the start of the 5,000’ climb, trail junction in the Siskiyou Mountains where the #BigfootTrail departs from the #pacificcresttrail, and contrasting ultramafic peridotite and marble.

Finally getting around to posting photos from our work on the #BigfootTrail in the Marbles followed by 500 mile hike to Mt. Hood. Here’s Man Eaten Lake, some crosscut sawing, lower Sky High Lake, and marble, snow and flowers. Photos to follow will progress northward.

Hiked the northern end of the North South trail thru Rhode Island today, training for 500 #pacificcresttrail miles this summer after a week of trail work on the #BigfootTrail . Here’s the register 1 mile in from the start at the Massachusetts border (where the #midstate trail takes off).
