  1. When the world is upside down and backwards, our ‘leaders’ are literally trying to eliminate us and our neighbours betray us, birdwatching really is my happy place.

My passion project Project Hawk, is part journal, photo album and historical record of a family of Swainson’s Hawks in Calgary, Alberta. 2026 is my 10th consecutive year of documenting this family in my almost literal backyard and I’m happy to report that our Matriarch Swainson’s Hawk has returned to the ‘hood!

If you like Swainson’s Hawks or want to learn more as I learn more about them, have a look at my website:

  5. Bald Eagle during his work performance review as a rodent control officer, tearing into a squirrel! Warfleigh neighborhood in Indianapolis.
We just stood and watched for 30 minutes. What a magnificent dinosaur! 10/10 would watch again.

  10. I have been blessed this morning by this (juvenile?) (Cooper's?) hawk just chilling on my porch, right outside of my windows.

  17. Australia has a challenger in the Big Bird stakes, and it is a worthy challenger indeed - Manhattan's Big Pigeon: defector.com/the-big-pigeon-is

Does this beat Canberra's magpie and Adelaide's Rundle Mall pigeon? I suspect it does

  22. The myth of the enormous creature known as the Thunderbird has been a part of Native American tradition for many years. Legend has it that there once was a bird whose wings beat against the sky and thundered like storms, thus the name. Witnesses frequently describe a dark-colored bird with a long beak and no feathers as acting predatorily, even going so far as to grab children. #thunderbird #bigbirds #folklore connectparanormal.net/2024/03/
