the #bicyclist who died in this collision was 80-year-old Michael O’Callaghan. O’Callaghan, who liked to be called “Mayor Mike,” ran for #Portland Mayor in the last election and was a regular at #BikeHappyHour where he spoke several times on open mic about his plans to help the #homelessness crisis.

We need to charge truck drivers who kill #bicyclist and pedestrians in avoidable scenarios with vehicle manslaughter so that they as a class of drivers will start taking greater care. Once again, a truck driver seemingly fails to utilize the vehicles mirrors and so kills someone. And will likely have little to no repercussions because “it was accidental”. They have a license to kill, which is maddening!

Of course, the irony here is that the #jogger, the #pedestrian and #bicyclist all offer clues to a piece of the solution. Improved #infrastructure to support #GreenTransport. In the post 1 if you look down the sidewalk you can see a utility pole right in the middle of it. In post #2 in the #sidewalk foreground, you can see it simply ends in a dirt trail. In post #3, at least there is a #crosswalk, but there are no protected #bikelanes.
