Ok, so today I ask the question: how many parts can be swapped and its still the same #bike?

Right now its easier to list what's stock/original from my bike:
- frame
- front wheel, including tire (30000km!)
- handlebars, bell, one brake lever
- display (battery got replaced once)
- front brake calipers
- rear brake hydraulic line
- front fender
- cranks (not the pedals)
- cable from dynamo to light
- one or two zip ties

Everything else is upgraded now. Motor, pedals, seat post, seat, lights, rack, battery, battery mount, ...

New upgrade: new suspension fork that's not rusted solid

Oops, bought a straight fork instead of a tapered one and the return time is long over (just found some time to tackle this with the new fork already collecting dust).

Just ordered an adapter that should arrive tomorrow. Lets see how this fits...

The old fork makes water noises if shaken, so I suspect its rusted solid inside (which is fine after 11 years full year use without any service and countless hours parked outside at work.

Another reason for the new fork is the slightly longer travel/slightly higher hanflebar position which should help with my back issues.

For reference: old fork is CCR-32 LO-R ; new one is X1

Q5. If you do this kind of work, can you point me to a good resource on how to change an inner tube without damaging the new one, and what kind of minimal kit should we take to accomplish it efficiently on the road?

I had a customer purchase a new wheel, then realize the dropouts on their 1972 Schwinn Varsity were too small for a modern 3/8" axle. I got to save the day by cold setting their dropouts using a seat post as a lever. The customer was not suitably impressed so I'm gonna need lots of internet points for thinking of this. K'thanks.

Tried calling my LBS to get them to work on my bicycle and the number was disconnected. Went to their web page and it was the correct number. Spouse looked them up on Facebook and they left a message 2 days ago about closing permanently.

someone dropped off an escooter motor and asked if i'd change the ball bearings. they're integrated bearings (6002RS RUWH), like on any hub-drive ebike-motor.

however, one bearing is disintegrated. balls gone, just the outer racetrack, stuck on the motor cap, with no lip to knock them off.

does anyone have any experience or link to vids on how to remove these leftovers?

I needed to install brake pads on my bike the other day so I watched one of Park Tools’ excellent videos with Calvin Jones explaining how to do it. I found the video segment for my kind of brakes and Calvin said, “This particular design can be quite frustrating.” 😨 But I was able to do it in only six tries. It would have taken longer without the video!

🚲🪛⁉️ What #ETRTO size of tire should I get to replace this one labelled 27 × 1⅜ × 1½ ?

( Rim is slightly smaller than a regular 28" ( or 622 in #ETRTO ). I have seen some so-called 27" that were 630 here in #Sweden, but this 27" is smaller..? Current tire is named Semperit Superior 2000. )

Random newbie bicycle tip (which I only learned fixing bikes in the last year): there are RIGHT and LEFT bicycle pedals, and one of them is "lefty tighty", i.e. reverse threaded. Bicycle pedals are labeled "R" and "L" for this reason. I never remember which one is reverse threaded, so I look at the two different pedals when I need to remove or attach pedals to figure out which. #BicycleRepair #BikeRepair #BikeTooter

Well, crud. I'm trying to get a 1980s mountain bike back on the road, but one of the brake pads is missing the rubber, and apparently smooth-post pads for center-pull brakes are no longer a thing. Anyone have suggestions or resources? (Not doing a restoration, just hoping my wife and I might bicycle to the Mexican restaurant a mile away on some pleasant evening.) #bicyclerepair c @ai6yr

I broke a spoke on the rear wheel of my old racing bike a few days ago. Just fixed it. First had to remember how to remove an old Shimano 5 speed cassette. The smallest sprocket is the lock ring with these. The other sprockets could be replaced with parts of newer cassettes if I took the time to file down their larger splines (they're all the same on this older system). However nothing looks very worn so I'll continue with the 13/14/15/16/17 gears for now and hope that the Netherlands doesn't suddenly sprout hills.

Backup bike saddle had a bad habit of just suddenly coming loose whenever I *didn't * have a multi-tool on me. I thought it was finally fixed by last LBS in Lanesboro visit. Houston LBS showed me the problem was basically like a stripped screw. Which was why it sometimes worked--and sometimes didn't.

He replaced it and saddke, and new saddle has 2 bolts instead of just one, so that has made things much better.

Sometimes you just have to admit that having to fix the front shifting over and over might mean a part needs replacement. Felt so much better when my LBS owner/mechanic came to that conclusion for my touring bike. I'd gone much farther than I should have adjusting it.

"Join us to work collaboratively with staff and experienced volunteers to process, recycle and fix incoming #BikeDonations! The bikes we fix contribute to the #BikesForAllMainers, Kids Bike Parties, and other programs. All sessions are open to beginners, and people of all skill levels.

Location: The spring & summer volunteer sessions take place at the at 155 Washington Ave, Portland, Maine.

Activities: Volunteer activities change based on the season, see below for details:

- Spring, summer & early fall volunteers work outside in the volunteer patio at 155 Washington Ave, and either dissemble bikes to salvage parts or fix kids bikes, single speed coaster brake bikes, for Kids Bike Party programs.
- Late fall & winter, volunteers work with staff at the Bike School to fix bikes that will be given away in our Bikes for All Mainers Program. Each session will focus on a specific area or part of the bike, and together volunteers will learn how to assess and fix it."
