If you have ridden along Marine Parade or Beach Road this week you would have noticed work is underway to remove six separated bike lanes. Protected lanes at the corner of Marine Parade and Acland Street, the corner of Dickens Street and Marine Parade going north and south, and Point Ormond Road and Glenhuntly Roads both north and south are either being removed or will be removed. Protected lanes will be replaced by painted bike lanes.
There was a consultation about whether to retain the lanes (which were part of the pop-up infra trial), but DTP has released neither the results of the consultation, nor any crash data to support their decision.
Bicycle Network is running a survey to fill that data gap.

I don't really like Bicycle Network. They're a bit lycra heavy. They're a big representative of existing cyclists but not future cyclists so there is a big selection bias in this survey.Ranking 'motorist behaviour' above 'bike riding infrastructure' tells you a lot about who is answering the survey and the conditions they think are appropriate for cycling.
Asking people that choose to wear a helmet to ride a bicycle whether the helmet discourages them from riding is pretty silly.
It's obvious that helmets discourage people from riding, you just have to watch how many people on rental scooters and bikes wear the helmets.

I hung about on a street corner today with a clipboard and a hi-vis vest from 7-9am.
I took a little seat, strapped to @rdm 's #Me-Mover (mine had a flat) a small flask of coffee, a hat and sunscreen and a clipboard and was comfortable enough.
I was surveying for my local council by way of the Bicycle Network, the bike awareness and promotion group that provides insurance for bike riders.
Not many bike users, but it's a pig of an intersection I chose (it's nearby) and I quite frankly wouldn't use it either as there are better options.
