Live and recent posts from across the Fediverse tagged #biboumi, aggregated by home.social.

  1. Just set `verify_certificate=false` in my config, because I encountered a small IRC network with an expired cert

  2. @nlnet @NGIZero I hope to see widespread adoption among XMPP services, and notably with gateways (wink wink Slidge and Biboumi) and XMPP servers.

    #XMPP #gateway #Slidge #Biboumi.

  3. Since a while trunk supports receiving already listening sockets, i.e socket activation.
This allows e.g. to connect before Prosody is entirely ready to handle component connections.
No more retrying repeatedly and giving up completely before Prosody is fully started!

Could also be used to start Prosody on demand when a client (or server) connects.

  4. @Samsy @arbocenc #XMPP can run bridges (called "Transports" or "Gateways" in XMPP terms) since the early ages. And nowadays, there are modern ones with tight integrations: #Slidge being a flagship (including a #Matrix gateway), and I'm myself working on ActivityPub gateway and soon a email one with #Libervia. #Cheogram is also working on SMTP gateway. And #Biboumi is the flagship #IRC gateway.

  5. @[email protected] Hehe, I thought as much.

For my actual client usage I'm actually using the
#XMPP client @[email protected] with #Prosody as the server and #Biboumi as the gateway, which works pretty well. I dislike browser clients because, well, let's be honest, webbrowsers are all awful these days. #XMPP however is quite mature and has good standards for making bridges, and there's several decent clients available for pretty much any platform you can imagine. It's a bit like #Matrix but not shit in every aspect.

  6. @geordie I'm doing double duty over here. Not only did I bring back my (self-hosted) jabber, but I also set up #biboumi and so now I'm much more active on IRC. I've got three different protocols (SMS, XMPP, and IRC) in the same client on my laptop & phone.

  7. I'm banned from Libera.Chat and I can't get #Biboumi to stop connecting me. I'm not ban-evading on purpose. I'm sorry. #israel #xmpp #irc

  8. @adam @nicoco Seeking other #XMPP bridges? Consider:

    - #Slidge: slidge.im/core/ - current flagship of XMPP bridges

    - #spectrum 2: spectrum.im/ - older, compatible with many Pidgin plugins (details: developer.pidgin.im/wiki/Third)

    - #Biboumi: biboumi.louiz.org - best for #IRC

    - #Libervia: libervia.org - for #ActivityPub (I'm the lead dev). Now stabilizing.

  9. One could set up a domain, i.e. somerandom.chat, that serves primarily over but can be accessed via XMPP or Matrix. XMPP access can be granted by setting up with the "fixed_irc_server" setting configured to the same domain. Matrix access can be done the same way Libera.chat has done it: set up a homeserver and configure a bridge appservice.

  10. Time to set up #Biboumi for my #Prosody. Had wanted to do spectrum2 in accordance with the recommendations by them, but the compilation process said no. #XMPP
  11. CW: IRC nerd stuff

After months of intending to do it, I finally switched over from #irssi (inside of a screen session) for my #IRC session to #biboumi (connected to #prosody as the gateway).

Now instead of having a terminal open with an increasingly outdated-looking black/grey-on-white theme and never being able to remember irssi commands, I just have a dino-im window (and a Conversations fork on my phone) that has #jabber, SMS, *and* IRC in one place.

  12. @tyil I set up an #Biboumi component on my #XMPP server yesterday. Quick to setup and works out of the box, including SASL authentication on IRC servers.

  13. So #matrix isn't set up with #libera yet, but a kind soul on IRC reminded me that #biboumi exists, and tipped me off that disroot has one running.

I'll set that up instead of waiting for a matrix.org bridge, and I'll do an #HPREp on the steps required with Conversations and a SASL login to libera. It's going to involve using a second XMPP client that supports XEP-0050.
  14. #biboumi irc<>xmpp bridge, makes xmpp even more fun :)

  15. People using #conversations and #biboumi for #freenode, do you reauth with NickServ manually when the freenode link has a hickup, or have you managed to configure biboumi to auth automatically? I do it manually and thankfully have only had to do it twice in one month.
  16. @reyhan @animo #XMPP is absolutely capable of doing encrypted audio/video, and as far as I know (but I'm not following so I may be wrong), Matrix was (is?) using Jitsi Meet for video conf, which is… XMPP based. And large and public chatroom are of course possible (and existing), and there are plenty of gateways (use #biboumi for instance for IRC, you'll see pretty large rooms). About encrypted chat, it's possible with OMEMO too (but not common for now that's true).

  17. Great! My Conversations, using @xj9 's #biboumi bridge, is on #oggcastplanet, #librelounge and #pleroma-offtopic, but #feneas is relevant to my interests anyway, so I joined there as well now.
  18. @animo have a look at search.jabber.network, it's a directory of #XMPP MUCs (and check if your server has #biboumi, it's a really good #IRC #gateway).
