  9. Audio Interview: How Beta Readers Help Authors See Their Books Through Readers’ Eyes, with Howard Lovy and Elizabeth Gauffreau

On the Self-Publishing with ALLi podcast, host Howard Lovy talks to novelist, poet, and educator Elizabeth Gauffreau about beta readers — what they actually do, how they differ from developmental editors, and why their real job is reader response, not critique. Drawing on decades of giving and receiving feedback as a writer and teacher, Gauffreau explains how authors can set clear expectations, choose the right readers, sort through conflicting feedback, and know when a reader's gut reaction matters more than being factually right.

  30. Hey #book people, I'm looking for a few #betareaders to tell me if my new #novel done in 1st person is working

There is no money for this, and you need to be comfortable with #lgbtq+ strong female characters, modern #noir and #death

There are 10 chapters to read out of a planned 30, and they are not raw, but are unpolished

    What I am looking for:
    - does the voice work
    - would you want to read more about Adèle
    - are the #goth and #lesbian characters and themes coherent

  40. #WritersCoffeeClub ~ How well did this short month go for you, in terms of writing?

#ScribesAndMakers ~ How did your month go?

    • #KonginiIdol is being uploaded EP by EP. It's all writing. So I've been a bit at loose ends, writing flash and working on two "new" novels.
    • "#Bijou the #TimeTravelingGhost," an Edgar Rice Burroughs X Jack Vance style pulp. I have mixed feelings about it. 20K is written. I need to do another polishing and adaptation pass for broader release. And I need #BetaReaders.
    • "#Airiusi: The Crow and the Witch." A Tanith Lee-style Mythpunk story. 5K written. The early release is getting favorable remarks. The main narrator is a #Crows, which is both fun and challenging to write.
