(if past is prologue US litigiousness will not take long to board this train, this time perhaps deservedly)
Prenatal exposure to medications that inhibit #sterol #biosynthesis, including certain #antidepressants, #antipsychotics, #betablockers, and #statins, is associated with a significantly increased risk of #autism spectrum disorder in offspring, with risk rising in a dose-dependent manner…pregnancies with such exposure increased from 4.3% in 2014 to 16.8% in 2023.

A controlled trial of beta blockers in approximately 8,500 people who retained heart function after a heart attack found that, after 3 years, the beta blockers conferred no benefit, and actually increased the risk of heart attack and death in women.

The claim is circulating that antidepressants can cause overheating and dehydration. This is a genuine public health message, but it's not so simple: diuretics, beta blockers, ACE inhibitors, antipsychotics, and some antihistamines may also interact badly with hot weather.
https://www.nytimes.com/2024/06/15/well/live/heat-weather-medication-safety.html (excerpt in a reply)There's even doubt about antidepressants having this effect. A recent paper in eClinicalMedicine looked at all the studies they could find and concluded that there wasn't evidence of antidepressants causing overheating in hot weather - though some other medicines do.
"Current evidence supports strong anticholinergics, non-selective beta-blockers, adrenaline, and anti-Parkinson’s agents impairing thermoregulation during heat stress ... physicians should interpret with caution conventional public health messaging related to the thermoregulatory effects of some drugs (e.g., antidepressants) during hot weather."

Coincidentally, the York Cardiology channel on YouTube has just posted a video explaining what beta blockers are and how they work.

I am so frustrated. In the last few days I’ve had multiple dizzy spells and low blood pressure events. I’ve had my heart rate drop into the mid 40s, and I’ve cut my hands up outside because I couldn’t feel them.
My body hates me, and the feeling is mutual. I’m also very very tired. I’m going to blame my #betablockers, my #long_qt_syndrome and general #health
This is particularly frustrating because last week, I felt invincible.

Stark reminder not to take #HeartHealth for granted. After a couple of nights on the tiles last weekend, my body went into #AFib / #AtrialFibrillation. Something it's not done in ages. So I've not been able to #run and have been back on the #BetaBlockers. Stupid ageing body. It's so finely calibrated and turns out I can't party like I used to without consequences. So have had the whole week off and am going to very gently attempt #ParkRun this morning. The #running is the only thing that gets it under control, but my body won't allow me to run until I get my heart rate down! Normally takes a minute. Fellas.... Look after yourselves and don't take your #health for granted. Because it's a pain in the ass when you're in a constant battle for it.

CW: Medical frustrations, Long QT syndrome.
It is so embarrassing having to sit down in the store because my blood pressure is too low. I mean, it’s better than having a cardiac arrest due to #LongQTSyndrome but… #betablockers suck.
I’m also dealing with #dehydration caused by a #stomachbug that, because of the aforementioned LQTS, means I can’t take anything for it. So… plenty of bathroom stops and lots of fluids. :(.
Luckily, we’re nearly done here.

Good to be out on the mountain #bike this morning. Felt reasonabe inspite of the limiting #betablockers Pretty dismal weather, lots of mud,River Severn swollen.

I saw a #neurologist for #headaches yesterday, and he said I have "too many #migraines." He put me on #BetaBlockers.
I took the first one last night...
Usually when I wake up, my body is tense and my face hurts from clenching all night. Today I awoke feeling relaxed, calm...even joyful? It was a sensation I hadn't felt in maybe 30 years.
Maybe it's all in my head, maybe not (I mean, how can it work so quickly?)--but either way, wow.
I feel refreshed.
