Today Kid2's boyfriend messaged me to ask me about making bechamel and I asked if it would be OK to call (Kid2 was at work and he was making pasta bake for them both to have for tea tonight).
We chatted about bechamel and what to do if it caught on the bottom, and then after we hung up, he texted a few more questions and got on with the cooking.
I love that it's not just my kids but also their friends who message and call to ask cooking questions. I recently talked to a friend about my realisation that maybe I chose to have several kids because I wanted them to have the closeness I missed out on. I look at how they're getting older and I think, maybe it's working, but also, meanwhile, I have all these connections with community in a way I didn't have, growing up. And that was unexpected, but it's so welcome.
