Navnene ‘Rona’ og ‘Rhona’ var stille og roligt på vej frem i Danmark i 00’erne og 10’erne. Men ingen fik de navne i 2019, og det gik pludselig af mode i det nye årti. Hvad mon der skete?
[The names ‘Rona’ and ‘Rhona’ were slowly gaining traction in Denmark in the aughts and 10s. Bug nobody got those names in 2019, and in the new decade, they fell out of fashion completely. I wonder what happened?]

Let's take a moment to appreciate that there are two different vertical lines, which can represent the glottal stop /ʔ/, and they both have descriptive, diminutive names. I don't know which is cuter: the “little stick” (palochka, ⟨ӏ⟩ ) or the “little skip” (saltillo, ⟨ꞌ⟩ ).

This antedates the entry by 48 years from 1707. Looks like a pun on General Monk, so the verb could be ‘monk-ify’: ‘make a monk out of’.

In other languages, it is cognate with Proto Chamic ‘*ʔabih’ (‘all’), Achehnese ‘(h)abéh’ (‘finished, used up; complete, the whole of’), Malagasy ‘avy’ (‘all’), Old Javanese ‘hawis’ (‘finished, completely gone, nothing left’), and modern Javanese ‘wis’ (‘already, enough’).

Alexander Adelaar ‘Proto Malayic’ (1992) (Hathi Trust: https://hdl.handle.net/2027/uc1.32106010295290?urlappend=%3Bseq=160 ), ‘habis’ comes from Proto Malayic ‘*habis’ and is cognate with the Iban word ‘abis’ and the Minangkabau word ‘abih’, both meaning ‘all, complete; finished, used up’.

Det er bare ikke godt nok, DR. I burde kunne finde bogstavet thorn (Þ, þ) i jeres tegnvælger. Det er ikke det samme som et p (heller ikke med en skæv firkant på toppen)! #DenStoreBagedyst #Sæþór #þ #thorn #typecrimes
[It's simply not good enough, DR. You should be able to find the letter thorn (Þ, þ) in your character picker. It's not the same as a p (not even with a misaligned rectangle on top)!]
