This is DunsPlayFest's youngest trustee, Jamie who has been part of community theatre since he was eight. He’s a regular onstage with Duns Players and at Berwickshire High School where he is currently doing Highers. He recently won the NODA North Councillor’s Rising Star Award.
He is also a writer/director whose play opened last year's DunsPlayFest, its sequel is booked for next year's festival.

Our high school in Duns has an excellent music department. One of the things they do is to host a different top-rated brass band every year for a concert, giving youngsters (from S1-S6) the chance of playing alongside some of the pieces and giving senior students the experience of performing their exam pieces in public as solos. The concerts are always excellent.

Currently reading David Gwyn's "Coming of the Railway" including the snippet that Telford surveyed a route for an iron railway between Glasgow and Berwick in 1810 for landed gentry in the Scottish Borders wanting to reduce cost of coal and lime and to open up a market for their grain.

Berwickshire High School has a remarkable music department. Last term was a brilliant production of Chicago, followed 2 weeks later with a Christmas concert. This Burns concert is a new venture and will feature a wide range of soloists and ensembles from across the school. They always present a good show with impressive young talent to the extent that locals with no connection with the school are also regularly in the audience.

Met (for the first time) my local SNP candidate for the GE yesterday, David Wilson who is campaigning hard to oust the Conservative John Lamont.
David is a buoyant breath of fresh air who actually answers questions sensibly without recourse to sound bites or party pre-vetted lines. Such a contrast to Tory lobby-fodder Lamont.

So after #DunsPlayers storming success of One Man Two Governors three weeks ago, this week it is DunsOperatic's Panto 'Sword in the Stone' which I am helping backstage. They've done a brilliant job creating a magical set which is very swift to change between scenes. The dress rehearsal was definitely a laugh! Opens tomorrow, last show being Saturday matinee.

Hot off the Blyth & Bonnie sewing machine: bags to hold mike packs ready for the next Berwickshire High School concerts, 12&13 December, made from off cuts but custom designed.

Duns Playfest is an annual festival of new drama held every May in the Scottish Borders. Last year one of the shows was cancelled, but we were treated to some excellent music by this chap who lives locally and walked in off the street by chance with his guitar (don't know his name).
