Talking Heads, Speaking in Tongues, 1983 on Sire
This was the fifth Talking Heads LP, produced by Talking Heads themselves rather than Brian Eno. It was the tour for this album which became Stop Making Sense, including their only US top 10 hit “Burning Down The House.”
What a killer album. In addition to “Burning Down The House” you’ve got “Making Flippy Floppy,” “Girlfriend is Better,” “Slipper People,” and “This Must Be The Place (Naive Melody).” The band is joined by Steve Scales, Bernie Worrell, Nona Hendry and Dolette McDonald, Alex Weir, Wally Badarou, Raphael Dejeesus and others.
My copy is a 2013 Rhino reissue – it is difficult to find original pressings of Talking Heads LPs in the wild that are reasonable and in good shape. But I think this reissue series is great in terms of consistency and quality – not necessarily advertised as “audiophile” but sounds great to me.

"Flash Light" (also called "Flashlight") is a song by American funk band #Parliament, released on January 28, 1978 by #CasablancaRecords as the second single from their sixth album, #FunkentelechyVsThePlaceboSyndrome (1977). It is written by #GeorgeClinton, #BernieWorrell and #BootsyCollins, and is the final song on the album, finishing its story of the group’s quest to defeat the evil #SirNoseDVoidoffunk, coercing him to dance.

Watched once again one of my favorite videos, Maxine Brown singing the classic Goffin/King composition "Oh No Not My Baby" on the Bitter End Show in 1968.
Maxine Brown: Oh No Not My Baby
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UtY1Jj9uppUThe song has been recorded by countless others, from Dusty Springfield to Rod Stewart, but Brown was the first to release it, and had the hit version in 1964. This is a live performance, in which she is backed by a great band apparently led by pianist Bernie Worrell.

Bernie Worrell měl jako klasicky vzdělaný klávesista jasnou představu o tom, jak ve funku za pomoci moderních elektronických nástrojů nahradit hudební party trubek, saxofonů, trombonů nebo tympánů.

Take #BernieWorrell (P-Funk, Talking Heads), Will Calhoun (#LivingColour, Wayne Shorter), Doug Wimbish (Sugar Hill Rap house band, Living Colour), Dr. Know (#BadBrains) and #mosdef and you have one helluva heavyweight ensemble.
Black Jack Johnson.
A band that had impeccable pedigree and so much potential never got to do their own thing beyond a handful of live shows (and ostensibly they all played on Mos Def's solo album The New Danger).

Spent some quality time listening, and I do actually mean listening, to Bernie Worrell's "Elevation: The Upper Air."
It's a departure for Worrell, mostly known for his electric work with Parliament-Funkadelic and Talking Heads.
"Elevation" is a solo piano album that is intimate and incredibly beautiful. I recommend putting on some good headphones and just immersing yourself in it.

Some music history before I go into my 🛏️.
Did you know that the bassline on *Flash Light* by #Parliament was created by late keyboardist #BernieWorrell? He used three (or four) Minimoogs to create this famous synth bassline (that was written for Bootsy Collins). This 1977 synth bassline had a huge influence on a lot of musical genres in the 80's and later.

Love George. Love Bernie. Love all the Funkateers. And they all deserve fair compensation.
