  3. Go me.

I woke up somewhat anxious and sad, my usual oh-woe-is-me-why-didn't-I-spend-my-life-differently.

But I've actually managed to self-soothe myself, and get my head into a more responsible and self-loving state. I'm definitely learning how to do this (finally!... after, what, decades...). Better late than never.

The past is past. I can't change it. And honestly a lot of my life was pretty damn good.

And I choose to be present, here, now, and make choices in this moment that take me on the path I desire.

  4. You know... i have been fortunate to have almost 1/3 of my age pre-internet, and i did use #tech as it came to document a lot of naturalist stuff, even diving into wildlife photography, but...

Tech has a way of truncating experiences. I learned this because I grew up without it. Taking pictures or video, at least for me, flattens the experience because a part of me is handling the documentation.

Don't forget being present is more important than sharing sometimes. #genx #bepresent

  7. What if I told you the most radical thing you can do today costs nothing, requires no special skills, and is available to you right now?

The most radical thing you can do today? Be completely here.

In our scattered, distracted world, presence isn't just a gift—it's a form of resistance.

Who will you show up for completely today?

  9. "It’s really important for a kid to be left alone"- When #TaikaWaititi made his feelings clear about the role of tech in children's lives

    By Sourav Chakraborty
    Modified May 03, 2025 04:54 GMT

" 'Exactly, now they’ve all got iPads and it’s done for them! I think it’s really important for a kid to be left alone and left to figure it out for themselves how to pass the time. As a kid, I spent so much time bored and coming up with ideas of how to do things, so I’d write stories or I’d draw pictures or invent worlds through drawing or just in my head, just thinking about things. I think that a lot of my creativity has really come from being bored.' " [SO TRUE!!!]

  11. Trying to understand Zen with your thoughts...
...is like trying to see the sky by painting clouds on your window.

Zen isn't about collecting more ideas—it's about letting go of them.
Return to the moment. Sit quietly. Let the sky reveal itself.

  13. You can’t live in the present and the #past at the same time.

Honor how the past has affected you, yet stay open to the present moment and all its possibilities.

Throughout the day, notice if you’re splitting your attention and trying to engage with the past and present at the same time.

  14. Why teens are giving up their #smartphones and joining the '#LudditeClub'

    Avery Hartmans, October 2022

"Since giving up her smartphone, Shub says she has more space to think creatively, more time to read, and better concentration. She and many of her friends have given up Instagram and they prefer phone calls over texting.

"'If I have one overarching message for my fellow teenagers, it's this: Spend time getting to know yourself and exploring the world around you,' Shub writes. 'It's so much more fulfilling — and so much more real — than the one inside your expensive little box.'"

  15. /Beginrant Personally, I use my laptop for browsing. But when I'm not near it, I jot down notes for things to research, songs I've heard on the radio (usually #WMPG), or news stories I've heard on #DemocracyNow. I've weaned myself off of expecting/wanting likes (especially on the Meta sites), and when I do check here (which is where I do spend most of my online time), notifications don't give me a high since I receive notifications about a few accounts, and not just my posts that have been liked or boosted. I do have a smartphone that I use for emergencies, or to text a friend when I'm running late, etc., but I've taken Messenger off, and pretty much just use Flora and Merlin to identify plants and birds (and take photos, though I have a DSLR on hand for those). The other day, a co-worker got mad at me because they wanted to call me, and had to wait for me to turn on my smartphone (my physical phone is now in the reception area). It's that kind of impatience that concerns me. People expect you to be connected 24/7, and maybe folks want to be connected 24/7 (or are afraid not to be). And yeah, are smart phones making us dumber? I think so. And making us impatient and anxious. Ugh! /endrant

Your Smartphone Reduces Your Brainpower, Even If It's Just Sitting There

A silent, powered-off phone can still distract the most dependent users.

    by Robinson Meyer

"I sit down at the table, move my napkin to my lap, and put my phone on the table face-down. I am at a restaurant, I am relaxed, and I am about to start lying to myself. I’m not going to check my phone, I tell myself. (My companion’s phone has appeared face-down on the table, too.) I’m just going to have this right here in case something comes up.

Of course, something will not come up. But over the course of the next 90 minutes I will check my phone for texts, likes, and New York Times push alerts at every pang of boredom, anxiety, relaxation, satiety, frustration, or weariness. I will check it in the bathroom and when I return from the bathroom. I don’t really enjoy this, but it is very interesting, even if some indignant and submerged part of my psyche moans that I am making myself dumber every time I look at it. As, in fact, I am."

  16. @triciakickssaas I hear you on this.

I start with petting my golden retriever on the regular as he kinda gets life in general. :)

That said, 2024 is going to go down as a rough year on the personal front for me. I made a post over on LinkedIn last week on the topic and listed out the 12 top of mind things that have been helping me in this context.

  17. SOME REFLECTIONS ON THE FIRST MEETING

We've been conditioned to listen to "experts", and to see ourselves inferior. But the Spirit knows that we're all equally precious.

That's why I encourage member participation in calls. We're all teachers, and we are all students. Coming from diverse backgrounds, we all have something wonderful to share.

The one requirement is speaking from #presence and not head.

  18. This is something I personally really need. I spend way too much time wishing that I could go back and change things. But I will start now and change the ending 😊

Are you good at living in the now, or do you tend to look back a lot wishing you could change the past?
