Para todos los que están aquí en el fediverso, lo mas seguro es que ya hayan tomado medidas en pro de su privacidad y por eso estén aquí en primer lugar.
Pero si tu no lo has hecho siempre hay una primera vez para todo el mundo, te invito a registrarte y probar ProtonMail que es un correo seguro sin la vigilancia que te hace Gmail y con soporte para enviar correos cifrados a cualquier usuario y nisiquiera los creadores de Proton puedan leer tus correos.
Y sabes que es lo mejor, que tienen una suite completa que incluye, Proton Mail, Proton Drive, Proton Pass, Proton VPN, Proton Docs, Lumo (Servicio de IA Cifrado) etc. Y todo lo que te acabo de mencionar obviamente es de código abierto (FOSS).

I'm not a fan of bureaucracy.
I see the friction, the delays. Sometimes, it feels like an "industry" built to create pointless jobs. Yet, there are moments when regulation is vital.Europe gives us the DMA, the GDPR, and a wave of other rules meant to protect us. Are they imperfect? Absolutely. They often overcomplicate things without giving us a real advantage. But it's something.
I don't believe in racing without a finish line. Progress is good, but not "at all costs". Every action has a reaction. We should be aware of it.
The EU system tries to safeguard citizens. Other hyper-growth countries take a different path, and the consequences can be brutal. Apparently more liberal, but only apparently. Imagine an American friend being denied health coverage because an AI on their device (or in the "cloud") flagged a text where they mentioned having a "persistent headache".
I've recently seen the real-world harm that targeted commercial algorithms can inflict on people in moments of fragility. That’s not the future I want.
Yes, Europe needs to accelerate.
But it must hold onto its core values. Leaner processes, sure, but zero compromises.Just because my car can top well over 200 km/h doesn't mean I should drive at that speed everywhere, just for the sake of productivity.

This morning, a dev I work with flagged a server that was struggling. I logged in and, unfortunately, a bunch of "Scrapers" were hammering it, causing an overload. This dev is very sharp and understood the situation. He started extending the caching margins. I prepared a list of countries of interest and, using pf, blocked the rest of the world.
The load plummeted, and the client doesn't care about their products being visible outside of specific markets.Shortly after, a similar situation on another server I manage (subcontracted, to be precise). I didn't know this dev and saw there was no caching in place, so I spoke to him and asked him to implement it. His response, sadly predictable, was that another one of his clients just moved to $CLOUD_PROVIDER and no longer has these problems, simply paying more when these "attacks" become more intense. I suggested he try enabling caching and thinking about their markets of interest. He's a positive person, so he agreed to give it a shot. A short while later, just by adding Varnish and some good VCL, the load dropped from 100% to 5%. Without any blocking.
He called me a little while ago, incredulous and happy.
It's always a pleasure to work with people who are willing to experiment, explore, and listen. With people who don't just follow the herd or ad banners, but who think for themselves. I've earned myself a walk outside the office now.

Moments of cultureshock when setting up something Linux:
1. Nothing on the system is trying to sell itself to you.
2. All telemetry is opt-in, you have to really look for it to opt-in and even then it's anon.
3. I didn't have to confirm my identity or my humanity for my own computer to let me in :polarbear:
4. I can install and run whatever I want and nobody knows or cares.
5. In the case of KDE, I can just go look and tweak the source code of all the Widgets 🎨 .
