  1. Subscription services that don't let you cancel online and force you to call them can get in the fucking bin, specifically #Beer52. Such a hateful practice (I'm busy during the day, their website is blocked at college, so it's a real faff), and I've really enjoyed their service over the years.

  2. This evening has been an absolute belter so far, and it's only 19:35!

    receiving a delivery from #Beer52,
fixing a major problem with my #Nextcloud instance,
    listening to #JeffWayne's #WarOfTheWorlds, whilst
cooking an amazingly yummy #dinner for the family,
knowing that there's an episode of #PokerFace sat waiting to watch...

  7. One week later and #Beer52 have sent out a customer announcement that this beer has some "overpressurised cans" that are "more likely to spray" and that it's a "result of the particularly hot weather". They recommend disposing of it.

You don't say! I wonder how much pressure is required to turn the base of a can inside out? 🤔

I think that's the second one of those emails that I've seen in a month or two!

  8. On the one hand, now that I've had my birthday box of beer, I should go back to getting subscription beer every other month so that it comes in odd numbered months and so I get one in mid-November and then get the beer advent calendar in December.

On the other hand, August is an Asian Cities beer box, and that's a novelty that I don't want to actively miss!

Looks like I'm getting more beer boxes 😁

  9. On the one hand, I could get 24 beers from #Beer52 for £40 with my amassed points. Or 16 beers for £27.

On the other hand, do I _need_ to spend my points and have that many beers when I'm already doing month-on, month-off with my subscription? 🤔

(I would use my Christmas scratch card as well, but it can't be used alongside points or on the old sub boxes they're selling off, so it's basically only £5 off once you pay the £5 delivery).

  11. The guy at #beer52, to give him his due, remained pleasant and professional throughout (I was rather terse, to be fair) and I finally got the sub cancelled.

Just be up front about this stuff, and don't deliberately make me jump through hoops to cancel. It's rude, poor customer service, and makes me rant about your company on social media.

If I’d simply been able to click “cancel subscription" on your website, or better still in the email, we could have avoided all this 🤨

  12. It was never made clear that #beer52 were signing me up to a subscription service, and there's no way to cancel online.

Despite clicking through four or five pages of "are you sure” and “look at these great offers” I was then given a phone number to call to cancel my sub.

Call obviously gets queued for 10mins, then I get all the same spiel, can you give us feedback, would you be interested in these offers, etc. etc.

  13. I am very unhappy, allow me to vent…

I signed up with an online craft beer seller (#Flavourly) years ago, got a cheap case of nice beer, but it was a bit pricey so never ordered from them again.

Flavourly went bust earlier in the year and #beer52 appeared to acquire their customer database and sent out emails inviting old customers to get a free case of beer, which I of course took advantage of.

Now a month later I'm told that my next subscription case will be dispatched soon at a cost of £33

  18. I cancelled a #Beer52 subscription yesterday. I joked to a friend it was like defeating an end-level boss in a video game. The sales person kept offering me inducements to stay or to spend credit on a box of beer.

Thing is, I told them straight off I was trying to cut-back alcohol consumption. Doesn't really seem a great thing to pressure someone to drink if they've said they're trying to cut back or take a break.

  19. Nooooo! Finally reading #Beer52's #Ferment magazine and discovered that I missed out on #Vocation's chocolate and chilli stout, because they packed at least two beers that don't match the #beer list in the magazine 😞

  20. What is a way to financially penalise / approriately discourage companies that let you sign up online but require a phone call to cancel a subscription such as #Beer52.

Had the same issue with the Glasgow Times recently, should be illegal.
