"Mushroom Murderer" Erin Patterson has been found guilty of triple murder, and was today given a life sentence.

The bizarre nature of this crime and her courtroom demeanor has caught a lot of public attention — she poisoned the family of her ex-husband with Beef Wellington laced with death cap mushrooms. Three people died, and a fourth nearly died and required months in the hospital to recover. Her ex-husband was also invited to the fateful lunch, but he declined. It appears that she poisoned him on several occasions previously, and he had to undergo surgery to remove a large portion of his bowel to save his life in 2022.

That she was found guilty is not very interesting. She was really bad at hiding her tracks.

What is far more interesting is the attempt to deny her guilt. That is really something. Putting everyone through all that palaver, concocting so many elaborate stories. What incredible ego to persevere with the charade. What kind of mind thinks for one second they would get away with it?

And what ego would even attempt to murder a bunch of people anyway? That's what I want to know.
