This whole ordeal just reminded me viscerally of the episode of Rugrats where Tommy is attached to his little lion toy, Henry. Then after getting pressured by Chuckie to play with him, he gets dirty, They end up messing him up so much that Tommy's parents have to buy Tommy a new one.
But Tommy doesn't know that and basically is dealing with grief that his friend is gone and I even think he partially blamed Chuckie for it? oh and Angelica told Tommy to be bad until he got what he wanted so Tommy lowkey became a "not even my shadow knows my name" type kid until he got his toy back LOL

CW: Fictional Mother Daughter Abuse, Book to Series - Like Water For Chocolate,
AH HOLY SHIT they have a Like Water for Chocolate mini-series on hulu. Its really capturing the emotion of the original book for me so far and im excited. This book, ironically found in my mom's library, is one of the critical literature pieces I love that formed my writing style to this day.
It tells the story of a family in Mexico in the 1890's-1900's. The youngest daughter Tita is forbidden from marrying because as the last daughter, it is tradition for her to take care of her mother. Throughout the book Tita goes through a lot of abuse by Mama Elena that she takes in stride.
To me it honestly really captures that feeling of helplessness mixed with pleading to soothe a furious parent's tirade that never seems to end and keeps extending via grudges and passive aggression. I wont say more so you can read the book or watch it yourself. (This gif will make sense when you start the story ;) )
