“A link” to the “shadowy online world of conservatism”: Former Harper minister Stockwell Day is a director of West Coast Proud, which poured money into ads boosting BC Conservatives.
Zak Vescera reports. An investigation with @IJFmedia. #BCElxn2024

The BC NDP was able to eke out a majority government this #BCElxn2024.
What about the seats they lost? Where did the BC Greens and BC Conservatives gain ground?
Let’s have a look, with a little help from some visuals.

@gemelliz
Here’s a link to the corresponding @thetyee article. (Non-paywalled)https://thetyee.ca/News/2024/11/11/Stockwell-Day-Secretive-Role-BC-Election/
Canada needs to address these 3rd party ‘advertisers’ that are clearly backdoors for Conservative dark-money to work around campaign financing laws.
Edit: apparently I forgot to actually link to the article. 😀

In the last fundraising quarter ahead of the provincial election, the surging BC Conservatives raised more money than the governing NDP.
Andrew MacLeod reports. #BCElxn2024

Tax cuts were promised by both the Conservatives and the NDP in the #BCElxn2024, framed as a way to ease cost-of-living pressures.
But tax cuts would do little to address the structural problems underlying those cost pressures. 🩹 Alex Hemingway writes.

“It was heartening to see members of the BC Conservative party saying they accepted the result.”
The BC Conservatives raised many culture war topics. But one expert praises them for rejecting claims that the #BCElxn2024 was compromised, despite right-wing influencers casting doubt on the process.

Did BC Conservatives breach voters’ privacy?
BC United claimed members’ personal data was put at risk in July. Why we need an investigation, writes Charlie Smith. #bcpoli #BCElxn2024

😱What happened in #BC #BCelxn2024? It seems to mirror US election 2024
Here's PressProgress' @pressprogress look at BC Cons with 43% of vote and some scary, controversial MLAs:
* racist statements, instructed critics how to harm themselves, posted statements Q'ing whether mass shootings happened
* falsely presented herself as a medical doctor despite having no license
* a 2020 US election denier
* 3 new BC Con MLAs previously donated to PPC who welcomed bigots

He may be right. But, with more time, BC voters would also have become more savvy about the fascist core of Rustad’s BC Cons. Perhaps. We’re watching this unfold south of the border right now🤞
““The unfortunate part is that we needed perhaps some more time to be able to connect, particularly with those people in the province that may not have heard the messaging and what we were trying to achieve in this province,” said Rustad.”#bcpoli #bcelxn2024 #Cons #fascism https://www.westerninvestor.com/economy-law-politics/rob-shaw-conservatives-had-everything-it-took-form-a-majority-why-didnt-they-9737907?utm_source=flipboard&utm_content=topic%2Fcanadianpolitics

@StephenRees
Or, he did the political calculus and figured out that racism, homophobia and conspiracy theories actually helped his numbers more than they hurt them.Turns out he wasn’t wrong. 😑

🎧 #LISTEN: “If I toss out the number 27 votes, does that give you a sense of how close it was?”

Hate was on display by candidates of the Conservative Party of BC.
Leader John Rustad did nothing.
@vancolour’s final #LogicCheck says, however he spins it, Rustad abdicated his basic responsibilities as leader.
-
Rustad dumps his candidate who referred to Indigenous Peoples as savages *after* his party lost the recount in Juan de Fuca-Malahat and his chance at forming government in #BCElxn2024 .
Well OK then.

It’s here.
Dr. Steve’s post-election verdict.
You might not like his diagnosis.
-
@saskboy #BCElxn2024 is still not really over. There will still be automatic judicial recounts:
In Kelowna Centre, the threshold for a judicial recount is 49 votes. The difference between the top two candidates is 38 votes.In Surrey-Guildford, the threshold for a judicial recount is 38 votes. The difference between the top two candidates is 27 votes.
K-C is for the moment held by a Con; S-G by the NDP.

The NDP won.
Now what?
A look back at a divisive campaign and a narrow victory.
-
@pinhman
Yeah. This time around though I expect the Cons to do everything in their power to undermine the NDP.MAGA-style conservatism is all about disruption and sowing chaos so they can claim that the system is broken.
I can’t see them putting up a speaker.

Message from BC Con campaign manager Angelo Isidorou who took part in counting the ballots today in Surrey-Guildford. #BCElxn2024 #bcpol
Thank you, sir. -
@chris
Correct me if I’m wrong, but doesn’t one of the parties have yet to give up a seat for the speaker? I can’t see the Cons playing nice. And for the Greens the choice is either hold the balance or disappear into irrelevance.It should be interesting times yet.

Now that the #BCElxn2024 has been called with the #BCNDP to form Government I would just like to say that we would not have had to wait so long to know the outcome if we had Proportional Representation.
The popular vote share has not changed significantly since Election Night.
BC NDP: 44.9% = 43 seats
CPBC: 43.3% = 41 seats
GreenBC: 8.2% = 9 seatsWe would already be well on our way to some sort of coalition or confidence & supply deal to form government.
FPTP Sucks!

2PM Update, the NDP continues to lead by 18 in Surrey-Guildford, and now the Kelowna Centre is tightening. Just a 46 votes. If that one flipped to NDP then it would be a little more solid majority. #CPBC #BCElxn2024 #BCPoli #CanPoli #CdnPoli

1PM Update.
NDP holding on to the Surrey-Guildford riding now, but narrowed 3 votes… just a 9 vote lead over the Conservatives.
This is insane.
The other close ridings don't seem to be moving enough to portend a potential switch, but who knows!
Seats:
NDP-CPBC-GREEN
47-44-2 -
12PM UPDATE! Surrey-Guildford FLIPPED!
NDP now in the lead with 8843 votes
CPBC has 8829!A difference of 14 votes!
That means NDP is leading/elected in 47 to CPBC 44!
A *bare* majority! (Likely will still need to have cooperation with Greens to guarantee stability) -
11AM Update: The CPBC lead is now down to 4 in Surrey-Guildford!! #CPBC #BCElxn2024 #BCPoli #CanPoli #CdnPoli

The #CPBC lead in the Surrey-Guildford riding is down to 9 as counting of absentee ballots continues!!

CBC has a well organized page that is tracking the Elections BC numbers here:https://newsinteractives.cbc.ca/elections/british-columbia/2024/results/
The Raw Elections BC numbers, updated hourly, is here:
I heard this morning that there were around 100 votes still to count today for some of the ridings. The NDP would only need an advantage of about 65%-35% to overcome a 12 vote deficit.
