  1. TIL the #BC250 board just had a BIOS mod to enable the full CPU...

    Which means, right now one of those boards is actually quite substantially faster than a PS5...

    Assuming the actual board can work with all the CPU and GPU cores enabled, of course, since there's actually quite a bit of lottery involved in that...

  2. I just had a completely silly thought...

    If #Linux peeps have managed to unlock the "missing" CUs on the #BC250 card using software alone, have they tried doing that on #AMD APUs and regular GPUs, too?

    I'm guessing the fact that the BC-250 cards are not fused at the hardware level is a fluke, but how cool would it be if we could unlock a bit more oomph on an APU or even low-end GPU?

    Bf set up a weekend outing, which is awesome.

    Coincidentally, the place we went to was 30 minutes away from someone selling a whole #bc250 server...

    As in, the full rack case, with the 12(!) blades in it, the two PSUs, and the SCREECHING LOUD fans...

    So, expect a dozen ex-mining blades to hit the market as #steammachine soon, I guess?

    Yay for getting those things out of the mining and potentially AI churn, maybe?

    Also, from what I understood from the seller, they have A LOT of those available, so I might be able to liberate more of them, with any luck.

  4. Part of me really wants to pick up a #BC250, but I can't justify the inflated cost for something that's kind of, well, not a necessity.

    It would be awesome to have I've for a mini #SteamOS box and would be great for the kiddos. But, yeah, I think I'm about half a year behind on that bad boy.

  5. I will say compile time is shockingly good, even though the NVMe drive is limited to PCIe 2.0 x4 bandwidth! The CPU has 6 cores/12 threads (instead of 8/16), and it's possible the highly parallel GDDR6 memory actually *kicks arse* when parallel compiling! I.e. no cores are starved. #BC250 #Linux
