people seem unaware that Bill Pulte, #Trump’s head of the Federal Housing Finance Agency (#FHFA) & the guy who accused #Fed Chair #LisaCook of #mortgage fraud, is/was a major player in the cult of Bed Bath and Beyond stock (ticker #BBBY, and yes, that’s a real thing).
pulte's maybe even worse than a crypto grifter. there’s a great doc "Cult of the Dead Stock" about the situation. i actually think it’s kind of a rosetta stone for understanding the world in 2025.
tl;dr after BBBY blew up a cult grew up around the idea that BBBY would somehow come back from the dead and make BBBY shareholders (whose shares no longer even existed - DTCC deleted them) rich. pulte, whose family business was in trouble, swooped in to the scene to convince the BBBY cultists to give him their money. he was at least somewhat successful.

@ddayen.bsky.social i don't understand why no journalists have even talked about the fact that #BillPulte was a major player in the memecoin grifts of a few years ago (Bed Bath & Beyond, GameStop, etc).

James Jani's documentary about the cult of Bed Bath & Beyond stock was easily the single greatest thing I watched in 2024 and in some ways one of the most terrifying things I've ever seen. Human beings obviously have a deeply ingrained drive to develop irrational beliefs when placed together in groups - not quite #Thanatos but also not unrelated.
(Part one, about the cult of Gamestop, is also pretty great, but not nearly as disturbing.)

Mainstream financial media, and those on social media that are in alignment, push the narrative that it is undeniably game over, a clear victory for the opponents of the company (#shortsellers #nakedshorts, and their allies).
#BBBY subreddit continues to hold the view that a #merger or #acquisition or a carve-out of #buybuyBaby is inevitable.
if such an acquisition or similar significant transaction does happen, it may render this bankruptcy filing moot.

Still waiting on GameStop to provide the updated #DRS numbers which are reported in the 10-Q / 10-K report. Such reports are not usually delayed...
Some suspect that the delay could be due to a potential merger. Curiously, posts on #superstonk about this delay keep getting removed by the mods. It is almost as if they don't want to entertain any insinuations that there could possibly be a merger.

To me, the thing of significance here is the mystery and doubt of it all.
#superstonk mods, or at least one of them, seem to be more or less antagonistic towards #bbby, which I find interesting. In my opinion, the connection and significance of #bbby to the greater #GameStop and #GMERICA saga is undeniable.
But the devil is in the details, and I am not skilled or experienced enough at reading financial documents to come to a certain conclusion myself.

Either way, it has been an interesting case surrounding the mystery of #BBBY, GME, and Gmerica.
I can't fault people for being confused. I'm confused too!
There is a war going on among billionaires, fighting over billion dollar companies.
Some billionaires are trying to profit from BBBY's looming bankruptcy.
Other billionaires are taking the counter bet, trying to profit from the reality that maybe BBBY isn't going to go bankrupt.
This war is happening and retail plays a role.

Then the post is marked as debunked, for actually a pretty good reason: the post used ChatGPT to back some claims and ChatGPT provided some false links to support the claims made. I agree that the ChatGPT stuff is not a valid source of corroborating information especially in this case.
However, in my opinion it was actually still a good post regardless even with some flaws.

Interesting post last night that came with some light grade drama in #superstonk
OP posts this thread, it gets removed by a mod within 30 minutes or so, causing uproar in the subreddit, and then is promptly re-instated. All within about 90 minutes.
