This velvety little bub, a free-tailed bat baby (Tadarida brasiliensis), has been in my care for a couple of weeks now along with a few other babies from his roost, all only a couple of hours or days old. They are working on their gains and becoming ever more curious about what’s going on around them. 🥰

Happy #Baturday from this eepy floof-bean! This is one of the two orphaned infant seminole bats currently in my care.
I haven’t been posting much, because orphaned bat season is pretty all-consuming. In my corner of the globe, it last from May through the end of summer. This is broken up into several waves, broadly by genus/family.
Thank you for the gentle nudges I’ve gotten that there is still a world outside of my wee belfry. 😅
May you all be as comfy as my tiny #BatsInBlankets.

I can't believe that I completely spaced on World Goth Day yesterday. I mean I knew it was coming, it was even my first thought when I woke up. But then routines took over, then things I had to get done, then energy management, and finally it was nearly bedtime by the time the thought popped into my head again. ADHD can be really annoying sometimes.
So I'll wish all my fellow goths a belated Happy World Goth Day with this picture of little bat burritos. I hope some of you got to attend some awesome events since nothing is happening in my neck of the cemetery. At least the online music party is still going today.

A day late but happy international bat day!
A small early cluster of Gray Bats in a recent cave. Gray Bats are endangered as they have very specific needs and roost together in the tens of thousands or more. This means they are reliant on just a couple of very specific caves, and also susceptible to disease because of the tight clustering in large numbers. Luckily, they have been generally resistant to the fungus that causes White Nose Syndrome.

Happy #Baturday, Fedi. 🖤 In these strange times… take a moment to bask in this floof. He’s the bat I rescued earlier this week that was saturated in some kind of mechanical oil and exposed two nights of freezing temperatures.
Nobody thought he would make it through the day. I won’t even post the “before” pictures because it was so very tragic. But here he is, four days later, enjoying a snack while modelling for #BatsInBlankets.
I call him Tiny Turner. And I tell him he’s “Simply the Bats”.
He’s not quite ready for release yet, but tonight some of my longest rehabs will finally be set free around sunset. Big feelings! 🖤🦇#BatsInMyBelfry
