And yet, they keep remaking The Seven Samurai. Sure, they file the serial numbers off and transplant it, but they keep remaking it.#BattleBeyondTheStars #MagnificentSeven #BugsLife #RebelMoon

For some reason I was thinking today about the 1980 Roger Corman film “Battle Beyond the Stars”, starring George Peppard, Robert Vaughn, and John-Boy Walton. I was in high school when it came out, and when I watched it with my best friend we thought it was a very funny space movie parody. I thought it was hysterical when the reviewer in the newspaper didn’t realize it was a parody, and reviewed it like a sincere film. Then I pretty much forgot it existed.
Years later I learned that it was not intended as a parody. If I had realized that while I was watching it, I would have thought it was an embarrassing derivative mess, and not enjoyed it at all — even though it was the same film.
I’m not really making a point. It’s just funny how a bit of context can massively change how you experience something.

@CactuarJoe I liked the Nestor _most_ of the time. Reminded me a bit of Fire Upon the Deep, though obviously also different, and I liked it there, too.

@miriamrobern Haha! Good for Roku figuring that out. This reminds me of my apartment neighbor in the 1990s who had taught her African Grey parrot to sing? whistle? part of the theme/chorus to *The Magnificent Seven*, recognizably. Too bad #BattleBeyondTheStars didn't have such a catchy tune. #Monsterdon

The reactions to #BattleBeyondTheStars have convinced me that a) I need to watch this movie, and b) I should get in on this #monsterdon thing.

BTW: it’s not a Cameron movie, it’s a Paul “the rich man’s Roger Corman” Verhoven movie

I mean I guess it's just me but I can't stop hearing him getting madder and madder at the translation system until he just thinks "fukkit" and stops trying
