What's everyone's favourite #ups these days?
Like with every #PowerOutage we have here, I discover yet another UPS playing possum that I remember putting new batteries in within the last year or two.
My GoldenMate UPS (which uses LiFePo4 batteries instead of regular lead acid ones) seems to be the one holding up OK, but the other ones I have (typically APC or CyberPower) don't seem to.

Like with every #PowerOutage we have here, I discover yet another UPS playing possum that I remember putting new batteries in within the last year or two.

I really need to investigate a combo of batteries and generator/solar for this house as this keeps happening fairly regularly and it's getting a bit old.
The good news is that it's a pretty warm day so we'll be OK without heat for a while. But as we're on a well, no power also means no running water.

I live in an area where we get a fair amount of power outages - usually brownouts, but sometimes the power is out for minutes to hours.
Because of this, pretty much anything electronic is hooked up to some sort of #BatteryBackup.
Maybe it's just me, but has anybody else noticed that the batteries don't seem to last very long in these units? I seem to be replacing the batteries or the units on an almost annual basis. Anybody else seeing this in #selfhosted land?

I replaced the batteries in my UPS in March 2021 and it is already complaining that they have failed and should be replaced :( Didn't even last 3 years.

My electricity provider has told me to expect a 4hr outage on Tuesday. It's going to be 34c with a heat index of 43c, so Hot! Sounds like a good day to test out our #residentialSolar and #batteryBackup system powering two portable AC units as well as the fridge and other essential things.

New solar power backup power system in place! This new all in one battery system replaces wonky self made battery + charge controller + ac inverter. The old batteries which were basically old style electric wheelchair batteries had gone bad, but the solar panel was fine & plugs straight into this with just a simple adapter
