Us, in our tiny little Suzuki Swift nearly got rear ended by one of those giant fucking RAM SUVs this morning (irony noted).

The guy in front of the guy in front of us braked hard, causing the guy in front of us to break, and me to break... the guy in the SUV behind us braked hard as well, but had to swerve into the side verge so he didn't just run into the back of us.

I think it was a mixture of him going fast and not paying attention, more than him being too close (although those giant things have so much weight to them that drivers really need to leave way more stopping space than they do).

Anyways, I'm glad he thought quickly and didn't hit us. But also those things shouldn't be driven by most of the people who have them.

Last night was bin night on my street, and my bin was knocked over by the garbage truck this morning. I've had a horrible headache today and hadn't been able to pop out, pick it up, and bring it.

This afternoon, a girl who looked maybe 8 or 10, wearing the uniform from the local primary school around the corner and a couple of blocks away, was just walking home from school along my street, and stopped to pick up my bin and put the lid back on. I saw through my front windows.

The kids around here often get a really hard time, with people criticising what they're like when they're outside just existing. We have people in the local Facebook groups posting Ring camera footage of kids walking past their house and complaining that there are kids playing in the local park. They're always talked about with suspicion and distrust.

This girl did something super helpful, not because she was asked or because she was being watched.. but because she saw something that needed to be done, and she stepped up and did it. This is an action grounded in a sense of community spirit, kindness, and care.

Her actions are really appreciated! I feel proud and thankful to live in a world where young people are thoughtful and kind.

We're off to Orange tomorrow, to take my housemate to the Asian grocery store so she can stock up on everything she eats from there. My guess is that this will be one of the last times we can take a longer* drive for such a small reason.

I'm really going to cut down driving in the next couple of weeks. I'm trying to get my housemate to sort out her room so she can have a functional office in there as well, so we can perhaps start having her work from home a few days a week. We need to get her a new desk, and some more bookcases, I also need to spin her bed around 90° so this against her other wall to get everything to fit in there. She's not a neat person, and her bedroom is vmessy.. which is fine, it's her room and I'm not her mother (tbh, if I was I wouldn't worry about her space either).. so I think it's going to be hard work for her to tidy enough that we can move furniture.

My hope is to sort out the house so that she can work from it and I can live in it without us wanting to murder each other.. with the goal of driving only maybe once or twice a week to help with the fuel crisis because it's only going to get worse towards the end of the month.

So, apparently a 21 year old man in Bathurst has been charged with various offences after police found numerous books detailing how to make pipe bombs, the materials for making pipe bombs, some pipe bombs, and over 50 stolen snakes in his home.

None of the offences are terrorist offences.

Most libraries have air conditioning, don't mind if you bring snacks and drinks in (please be careful), have books, games and toys for kids, and spaces to sit and read and soak up that a/c.

You don't even have to have a library card (but of you want one, they're usually free to join!)

Libraries are amazing places.

I popped in to my tattoo place today to chat with the new piercer there and ask her to look at my conch punch because I think it's growing some irritation bumps (I can't see it properly, even in a mirror).

It is—boooo!

She seems amazing though—yay!

We ended up having a long chat about the importance of building up alt community in regional areas, because of the high youth sui rates (especially Aboriginal kids!) and how we were both saved by finding community.

I'm going to book in the next week or so and get a couple more holes jabbed in my ear.. I was wanting to keep working on my ears, but with my regular piercer not really getting to Bathurst much anymore I was out of options.

I'm super glad they're working at Sage now.

Today, a discussion started about what people are doing on the weekend, I mentioned that classes start again on Monday so I'll probably be reading. This lead to one of the guys in the group ranting about the state of university education and how it's "been dumbed down so the foreign students pass!" (it hasn't)

So, I deleted his comment and gave him a warning that we aren't doing a racism in the group, and if he kept it up he'd be banned.

Then one of the women jumped in with a "not to be racist, but I agree" comment.. so she got banned immediately (and banned from the kink group I also run).

The guy came back with a whole "well tell me how I was racist, I didn't single out a specific race!" multi-paragraph screed.. so he got banned as well.

"Anyone else interested in getting banned? Because I have the time to spend this afternoon."

Like, how did you all think that was going to go? Sheesh.

We just found this little girl wandering along the road in the rain. I pulled over and opened the door, and she absolutely raced to the car and jumped right in.

I've posted on the local Facebook groups and am now sitting in the car with her waiting to hear where she belongs... she's napping on the seat next to me.

I just got into an argument with a shopping centre security guard because he was trying to kick a houseless person out of the shopping centre. This person seemed semi-conscious and wasn't responding to his demands to leave, so the security guard kept saying he was going to call the cops.

I asked if he'd thought of calling an ambulance, because it seemed like a medical emergency to me (me, who was a nurse for a long fucking time..), and the security guard just said that it was "obviously drugs".

Turns out when the paramedics got there the guy had a blood sugar of 1.4mmol/L (which is like 25mg/dl for the US folks).

The security guard was all like "well how was I supposed to know??"

I mean, someone who is houseless having a medical crisis from a chronic condition that needs access to specialist management and regular food?? I'm fucking shocked. Who would ever have guessed?! 🙄

This.. this is also not my dog.

We found the other dog as I was driving my housemate to work. I got home and she called because she'd accidentally left something in the car, so I drove back out to the uni (she works there) to give it to her.

Driving back home the second time, I found THIS FLUFFY GIRL wandering along the same road. This girl has a tag, but the number went straight to voicemail.

I popped her in the car and drove her out to the Bathurst Animal Rehoming Centre and dropped her off.

When dropping her off I explained that I'd been there about 90 minutes earlier with a German Shepherd I found in the same spot, so they might be from the same household and both got out.. but they said the German Shepherd had been picked up already (Yay!).

I'm meant to be writing an essay!

This is not my dog.

..we just picked up this big ol' lost boy running on the road, and surrendered him to the Bathurst Animal Rehoming Centre in Kelso. We couldn't keep him at home and look for his family, because of the other pets.

He has a collar, but no tag (there's a ring where it looks like the tag used to be). He's in good condition and I think he's loved and cared for.. so I'm guessing he's got a microchip.
