A new bird! This channel-billed cuckoo was making a bit of noise, giving me plenty of time to get my camera. At first I thought the other other bird in the shot (the black one) was chasing it away, but I think it might be the cuckolded "parent", freaking out that its "baby" had fledged and left the nest.

Telstra mobile outage!
This morning I noticed I had no phone signal at the Doctor's surgery in Batemans Bay. My home internet is from the same network, via my usually very effective 4G router. When I got home it was down too. So for a while I had NO COMMS. Back to the caves!

"Periods of HEAVY RAINFALL which may lead to FLASH FLOODING are possible over parts of southern and central coastal districts from Monday afternoon through the overnight period into Tuesday morning, then becoming less likely later on Tuesday. Scattered six-hourly rainfall totals between 40 and 80 mm are possible, with isolated totals of 120 mm possible."

Bushfire season starts next week here. I just did a bit of maintenance work on my firefighting kit, and a quick test of the emergency pump and fire hose. I'll continue refining the plan as things heat up, and hope it will be another unburnt summer like the last one.
