Weather Bug is forecasting highs in the 60's and lows in the 40's for where we will be fishing next week, typical for early to mid-September. Very good for being in the boat for hours.

A. K. and I long ago to pointedly lose count of the number of fish we catch at about 3 or 4, to avoid creeping nastiness of competition. This way it doesn't matter if he caught 10 and I only caught 8; what matters is, we both got some. We settled at 3 or 4 because that's the point where it becomes obvious that you are *actually* catching - instead of blundering - into fish.

When I fish a lake I divide the lake in two sections horizontally. The upper decction extends from the surface to ~8'.
The second section from ~8' to the bottom but no more than 28'.
Lures that are fished from the surface to about 8' are typically retrieved horizontally.
Deeper than 8', I used lures that are mostly fished vertically.
Fish like large & smallmouth bass, walleye, & pike caught in 28'+ water can suffer barotrauma and die.

Dang y'all I've done very little fishing this year. There have been a couple of big local fish kills, and the warm water near me has been particularly gross.
A friend recommended me to check out a newly accessible river near her house, which is like 60 miles from me.
I didn't realize how much I was missing my local fishing routine until I had the shoal bass in my net. Caught it on a size 12 jig made from a pheasant feather.

When a largemouth bass eats something the size of a frog, it opens its maw nearly as big around as its own head, and takes it in a single sweeping gulping swallow. The frog is floating quietly in the sunlight one second, swallowed whole by an unseen predator the next. I took a vet fishing this morning here in the Driftless. After six hours, we'd accounted for over 20 bass and a single bluegill. It was a crazy morning, we just hit them at the right time with the right lures. (Wacky worm rig with Senkos, bluegill-like crankbait)

Three weeks in Tallahassee. I am still coming down from a depression and anxiety low and high.
It been very dry. The TLH are is about 12" short on annual rainfall. Of course that could be erased by one tropical storm. No rain for the upcoming week and highs in the low 80's. A good guilt free sleep would be a blessing.

My Sunday afternoon didn't suck, despite the temperature plunging almost 30 degrees Fahrenheit from the previous day to yesterday. I hosted a fellow US armed forces vet on the boat. Together, we got two bass and two nice-sized sunfish. Great day!

Caught a shoal bass in the hooch this afternoon. There were gar and a carp sharing the eddy, but they took no interest in my streamer. This hot pink is my favorite color for stained water.
It was a bit of a journey to figure out these hollow deceivers, and I haven't made one in more than a year. I'll have to sit down and figure it out again soon.
