  I would say ‘Wind Machine’ or ‘Aeliophone’. It is a percussion instrument used to produce the sound of wind in orchestral compositions and musical theater productions. Originally used only in operas by Wagner and Rossini during the Romantic Period, Richard Strauss was the first to make it popular by using them in his tone poems. Later, many impressionist and modernist composers such as Ravel, Vaughan Williams, Schönberg, Messiaen etc. adopted this instrument in the orchestration of their pieces. Some classical works using the wind machine are :

The symphonic poem ‘Loch Ness’ consists of five through-composed impressions of this mysterious Scottish Lake.

1. The Lake At Dawn – calm, static, sonorous blocks depict the troubled opaque water surface and the enormous depth of the Lake at daybreak.
2. Slowly the rising early-morning mist reveals the distant ruins of Urquhart Castle, represented by a solemn theme in the trombones which is taken over by the full band, thus evoking the illustrious past of this fortress besieged so many times.
3. Inverness: Bagpipes and Tourists – the music takes us down to the town of Inverness where the first tourists mark the slow but steady start of a new season to the sound of a Scottish melody.
4. Storm – suddenly a heavy wheater breaks: fierce gusts of wind and heavy showers transform the erstwhile calm surface into an obscure and whirling mass of water, and clouds rapidly passing over offer an eery scene…
5. Conclusion – storm and rain gradually decrease and when everything is quiet again we are granted a last view of the Lake in its full glory.

I had the idea to make a “practice pad” out of my old #bassdrum
I always practice on the #edrum but the rebound of the mesh head just isn’t the same. I’m used to it, however it would be nice to have a more realistic feel.

So I grabbed my old bassdrum, put a drumhead on it and as much stuff I was able to find in the drum itself.

The feel is there. But also the volume. It’s still freakin loud 🫣

I could make a bassdrum out of a floor tom, but it would be an extra cost due to the special rim to clamp the pedal on it.

(Yeah, cable management on the ekit is not the best 😅)
