I am still thinking about how to enable “.smooth()” style blending of patterns in #basil

Currently all patterns end up being transported to big if-else statements.

For number-patterns this would need to change to blend between the appropriate values.
But is it also possible for patterned sub-chains or functions? Add a “blend” hydra node and blend between them? 🤔

I just taught a software engineering course at a summer camp for students. And one of our intros was: “wou will get frustrated. Frustration is good, because it means you are learning the hard stuff!”

If you bypass that frustration with a shortcut, you will not learn the hard stuff.

All of my #basil work has thought me so much about language design and compilers (and my even earlier dabbling into doing an #intCode compiler for #adventOfCode)

What's happening with these basil leaves?

I am guessing it is sun scald. This variety, 'Italian Mountain' sweet basil, seems much more prone to this browning in the mid-leaf area than the other variety ('Genovese') that I am currently growing. They get watered about every other day. The other plants in the same plot (tomatoes, peppers, and chard) have no sign of this type of leaf discoloration.

Is basil prone to sun scald?
(This is the first year I have grown it.)

Been to the plot earlier, too hot to do anything other than water the crops and sit under the plum tree. Stuff is growing OK: broad beans already harvested and donated to the food bank, strawberries well gone down my gullet - had a week of top posh breakfast, strawbs in buffalo milk yogurt....

Onions arising, tomatoes flowering, pinto beans trying the escape the greenhouse through gaps in the roof, carrots also coming up nicely though last year's have flowered so let them be for insects.

Grapes and olives also showing up nicely, dunno if the olives will ripen, grapes yes, they will, not enough to make wine but am sure I'll have some decent breakfast, sometime in October.

Am preparing some home made pesto using basil and garlic from the plot, olive oil, a quarter bag of almonds, pinch of salt, splash of chili sauce, no cheese.

I put wires in the pole bean row so they can climb up to the cattle panels, transplanted more basil to a pepper bed and a bunch into the strawberry bed, and I saw the oldest cucumber plants that were a bit stunted from bad potting mix have their first blossoms, and they seem to be actually growing ok.
