Literally: Speed DOES NOT KILL. — Physics101 — because velocity is relative.

Impact with another object where the relative velocity differential is above a certain speed (Say 40kph?) might.

You stop the carnage on the road by educating Drivers (relentlessly, and mandatorily so) not with Speed limits.

Where speed limits is important, it is as indicators to the driver that higher speeds then posted through a signed section of a road are likely to cause damage or impact to/with other stationary/moving objects in said section. The assumption being that the road/section conforms to all other Australian standards which apply.

The perverse fixation on speed limit as a panacea for limiting injury and death on our roads is pathetic at best. IMHO
