  1. 2/2 This evolved well in the glass, too, and the next day. If it seems a bit softer and plumper than some visions of Barolo, it worked on its own terms and was a pleasure to drink. 14.5% alc, $40 then #wine #barolo #winesofitaly

  2. If you want steelier Barolo, this probably isn't the 1st choice, but it has plenty of virtues in a richer style. There's mid-palate finesse to go with a little tightness & lusher fruit.

Ripe, it still holds its balance, ending with that big, tasty fruit on a finish that has controlled grip. It evolved well in the glass, too, and the next day. If it seems a bit softer and plumper than some visions of Barolo, it worked on its own terms

  4. Barolo in a great place after 24 years. It was stunning on release, but way too tight. It was going to need time. Have cellar, can do! The wood (a year in barrique, a year in cask) seem well absorbed, and tannins are friendly now. On the whole it seems well balanced. It's also deep and mouth-coating.

    It's a beauty that I liked a lot. 14.5%, over $100 these days.

  5. Been awhile since I mentioned one of these. Coming to the end of the stash, it's holding on nicely. (This is how I like to time it, not that the waiting was all that intentional!)

The white label was always more accessible and this drinks best now as a pop'n'pour. No decant. That's not to say it has no life or didn't improve in the glass--it does and did!--but it's elegance and freshness are paramount. Silky texture and lingering taste. I still like this a lot. #wine #barolo #italy

  6. Stinco di #agnello al #Piemontese
    (“”)
#Piedmontese style #lamb shank with New Year’s lentils. It’s one of our various Italian traditions, in this case attributed to my paternal grandmother’s ancestors’ region, because she was born on New Year’s Eve. (I also interned in the #Langhe & #Roero region of Piemonte, aside from Florence).

The recipe includes red wine, like #Barolo, plus a touch of #chocolate, vegetables for the stock that’s reduced to a rich sauce, as well as a small amount of honey, vinegar, tomato sauce, pepper, and juniper berries.

Lentils include a basic soffritto, pepperoncino, rosemary, and some of the lamb sauce.

#Wine is a #California vintage 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon from the Santa Cruz Mountains appellation by our local Mount Eden Vineyards of Saratoga here in County of Santa Clara, California, one of the smaller cities surrounding San Jose.

  7. "L’ipocrisia di certi imprenditori di #Barolo e #Barbaresco che vendono le loro bottiglie a 50€ l’una, e realizzano «margini di guadagno scandalosi grazie a paghe in nero di soli 3€ l’ora per 10-12 ore consecutive di lavoro»."

  8. This pic was in the early 2000s in Montalcino, a tour of Tuscany. A couple of years later, went to Sicily. I came back to find a Neapolitan in my email with my family's ancestral last name!

I got more interested in the Italian part of my heritage. That led to becoming a dual Italian citizen. Which brings us to now.

A couple of months back, the 15th anniversary of Italian citizenship! Barolo stood up.Careful, I'm an Italian teenager. Wild and crazy.😜

  9. Fun Italian #wine fact - If #nebbiolo grapes are grown on north facing slopes, the wines produced from them cannot be called #Barolo or #Barbaresco instead they go by the name Langhe nebbiolo. Most probably worth trying - less costly than the legends. Try Langhe nebbiolo that is 3-4 years old. #Italy #piedmont

  10. #ClimateChange means the areas of north western #Italy famed for the production of #Barolo and #Barbaresco wines are becoming too hot. #wine Vineyards will need to be a couple of hundred meters higher was told by someone who lives in the area.

  11. 1979 Barolo that the restaurant wife and I went to for our wedding anniversary opened for us. Wonderful!

  12. Barolo, der König der Weine. Vor allem ältere Jahrgänge scheinen schier unbezahlbar zu sein. Aber manchmal, nur manchmal, findet man auch einen guten Tropfen zu einem erschwinglichen Preis. 🍷🇮🇹
