So...I ordered some new five fingers from Vibram last week, and just before 7pm tonight, (despite Malta being ravaged by storms) UPS delivered my super quiet new V-Alphas.

Now, there is absolutely nothing wrong with my V-Treks, but I love a sale, and 30% off another pair of five fingers direct from source is to good to pass up.

Ich hab mich getraut und bin 12K in Barfussschuhen gelaufen 🏃🏻‍♂️🥳
Scheinbar zahlt sich mein ergänzendes Crosstraining aus, denn meine Beine haben das problemlos mitgemacht 👍
Nur die kleinen Steine auf dem Waldboden waren aufgrund der fehlenden Schuhdämpfung etwas unangenehm 😬

Nach den vielen langen Läufen 🏃🏻‍♂️ in den letzten Wochen ist mein Akku derzeit ziemlich leer 😬
Deshalb werde ich in den nächsten Tagen nur noch bis max. 10K laufen. Und das bevorzugt in Barfussschuhen und Fivefingers-Socken. So wie heute 🙂👍

The second one is for trail running/walking.

I'm exclusively wearing barefoot shoes for about 1.5 years now. I really like them and I don't think I want to wear regular shoes anymore.

(funny enough, the regular shoes I wore before had actually less weight than my barefoot shoes. 😁)

They cause absolutely no problem to me, I like feeling different surfaces, and it's the closest I can get to walking barefoot.

Barefoot is still more fun, though. 😁

I still need to buy barefoot hiking shoes at some point, but sadly they're a bit expensive, so, maybe at some later point.

The Vibram 5 fingers look absolutely fabulous! I really love my 5 finger socks, but when it comes to shoes my toes morphology is a bit peculiar. My second and third toes are longer than my big toe. Over time with regular shoes they both became crooked, but the #minimalistShoes are freeing them again and I am starting to feel the lack of space already with 5F socks, even though they stretch a bit. I believe 5F #barefootShoes will be even shorter for toes.

It was really the adaptation required by walking in #minimalistShoes. I had to switch to a forefoot stride both when walking and running. The impact on the knee joint is significantly different and that implies an adaptation period.

For now I will keep #running in regular shoes, but starting from June I will start wearing my #barefootShoes 1x/week.

Post-run barefoot shoes update 2: the tightness got worse yesterday and now I'm rating it at 5/10.
I will skip #running today, and do a strength and mobility session instead.

Post-run barefoot shoes update: feet muscles I didn't know I had are a bit sore. This is quite interesting!
And I feel a light tightness on my right calf that I would rate at 3/10. Nothing to worry about if it goes away tomorrow.

Afternoon peeps :)

As promised a couple of weeks ago, a running shoe update.

The postie's just been, and delivered my new nice quiet coloured running shoes.

These are Xero shoe HFS II barefoot shoes, (zero drop heel to toe, 8mm sole, removable insoles ~makes it about 9mm overall)

My current minimal shoes are 14mm stack height, so I've shed 5mm of sole thickness, really looking forward to running in these.)

Who has tried out minimalist, or barefoot shoes? I bought a pair on the cheaper end of the spectrum just to see how they were, and so far I’m enjoying them!

I just took about a mile walk in them, the furthest ive walked in them, and to my surprise my feet don’t feel any more worn out than if I’d done it wearing my usual sneakers (which are padded running shoes).

We’ll see how the muscles of my legs feel later. ;)

Anya just made a big list of Best Barefoot Shoes, and it's a fun read if you dig that kind of thing. Her reviews come from a lot of testing, which I appreciate. My personal favorites are Wildlings and Lems. Wildlings are almost unbelievably light and much more durable than they seem like they should be. Lems are comfortable and great for the cold and wet winters where I live.

There! I bought 2 new pair of barefoot shoes: the ZAQQ Heaven & the Wildling Nebula.

I know a lot of people find them ugly because of the wide toe box, but "regular" shoes just plain destroy my feet.

The best thing I ever did for my feet was start wearing "barefoot" shoes for everything. Even backpacking and running. My toes have plenty of room, my ankles are stronger than ever, and my running stride is better. From beach, to sidewalk, to pavement, to Ricky trail, to fresh lava I've done it "barefoot" and at the end of a long day hiking I never feel the need to tear off my hiking shoes and switch to camp shoes.
