I very much enjoyed #Barbie. What a spectacle! That was a MOVIE, something that USED the medium! I laughed out loud many times, teared up several times, and particularly delighted in the many moments when I genuinely did not predict what was coming next. I'm considering nominating it for a Hugo Award.

A few times in the past few years I've gone to see a film in a cinema on a weekday morning, showtime starting before 11am or so. Grateful that my schedule is flexible enough to permit this. Since, usually, the air in the theater has had 10 hours of filtration/ventilation/precipitation since the last moviegoers exhaled there, and I'm one of 5-10 viewers at the show, #COVID risk is lower.

Barbie was even better the second time. Saw lots of things I missed from the first watch. My eyeballs had a good wash during the white room scene 😭
The theatre wasn’t full this time. Enough people to hear laughter and sniffles. Better than when full.

Spent many nights of the early 1990s in tiny places with loud bands like Silverfish.
Seeing Barbie everywhere reminds me that Silverfish's 'Big Bad Baby Pig Squeal' would have been a great theme tune for it.

This is a great interview with Greta Gerwig by TCM on the films that influenced the look and feel of Barbie. And the Easter eggs in Barbie that call back to classic films.
I need to do a rewatch of several films that Greta Gerwig is in, or that she directs. She’s phenomenal.

The Barbie screening I was at today had a lot of people in attendance. Easily the most packed screening I’ve been at in years.
I usually pick Friday afternoon slots for films as the cinema isn’t bunged. People are at work or school. Not today. Schools are off for summer, of course. And plenty of people must have taken the afternoon off work.
People in the know are starting to talk about Barbie having a huge opening weekend box office. 👍🏻
