Wer an die großen Wagner-Dirigenten der Gegenwart denkt, nennt meist zuerst Christian Thielemann, Kirill Petrenko oder Marek Janowski. Im deutschsprachigen Diskurs taucht Sir Antonio Pappano allenfalls am Rande auf. Denn sein musikalisches Wagnerschaffen ist – sieht man von einem Lohengrin bei den Bayreuther Festspielen um die Jahrtausendwende ab – auf den angelsächsischen Raum beschränkt. Zweiundzwanzig Jahre lang prägte der britische Dirigent als Music Director das Royal Opera House in London und machte Wagners Musikdramen dort immer wieder zum musikalischen Ereignis. Die Inszenierungen von Tristan und Isolde (Christof Loy) oder Der Ring des Nibelungen (Keith Warner) waren untrennbar mit ihm als Dirigent im Orchestergraben verbunden. Er wirkt fortan als „Conductor Laureate“ des Hauses, denn seinen Posten als Music Director hat in dieser Spielzeit Jakub Hrůša übernommen. In seiner neuen Funktion arbeitet Pappano gemeinsam mit dem Regisseur Barry Kosky derzeit an einem neuen Londoner Ring-Zyklus, welcher mit der Premiere der Götterdämmerung im Januar 2027 seinen Abschluss in Covent Garden finden wird. Good exhibition, mostly paintings and sculptures, with a few drawings and some videos.
I loved Yiadom-Boakye, Cozier, and Patterson, but I found the organisation by 'discursive zones' unconvincing and a bit messy.
