If the #vape / #sweet shops and #barbers in most towns in #England are really selling as much #drugs under the counter as the gammons claim they are, I would surely have thought we would still have a vibrant rave/party scene like in the 90s/00s...
I suspect the reality is whilst they might be evading some level of tax/regulations they are otherwise legit businesses with no more corruption than what white British folk had in their small businesses in Thatcho / Major's time (TBH I knew many record and fashion shops and night time venues that *were* essentially funded by laundered drugs money)

For 20 years, I’ve been loyal to the same barber shop and haven’t gotten my hair cut anywhere else. The shop has three or four barbers working there, but the owner remains a constant presence, along with a couple of long-time employees. Every barber does an excellent job with haircuts. Situated in an Army town, the shop is conveniently located on the road leading to the gate. Personally, I think feeling comfortable with a barber is important—I appreciate the familiarity. When asked how I want my hair, I enjoy being able to simply say, “the usual.” Interestingly, a couple of the barbers are originally from Vietnam, and they always finish up with a relaxing head massage.

The colours on a barbers pole usually reflected the blood and bandages used to clean up during bloodletting.
Patients grasped a rod or staff tightly to make their veins show. Then barbers cut open their arms and bled them. The red and white pole is still used to identify barbers.

The week kept me too busy to do much of anything celebratory about my birthday. My one treat was sitting down for a proper shave at a downtown barber shop. Steam and hot towel treatment, followed by a thorough straight razor shave and yes, the icy hot aftershave. It felt amazing.
I took a picture of one of the guys cutting a customer’s hair. It’s a fun vibe: Lots of sports apparel, jewelry, tats, and fancy sneakers, wise cracks flying across the room, all ages getting neatened up.
