Here we go again.
I can't *prove* breville's support of Baratza grinders is sub par, but I have had to replace the same parts multiple times since they took over.
And to be honest, it's really freaking annoying.

We're one of the first people outside of Baratza themselves to have our hands on the brand spankin' new Encore ESP Pro grinder. Today was setup day, unboxing, studio shots, in situ photographs, and I shot a few short videos showing how the grinder's auto off system worked.

It's the Forte Grinder. We've never formally evaluated this grinder at CoffeeGeek. That's changing this summer. And this unit we just got in is a very limited edition version of the Forte, in a different colour, and signed by one of Baratza's two founders, Kyle Anderson.

It's the Forte Grinder. We've never formally evaluated this grinder at CoffeeGeek. That's changing this summer. And this unit we just got in is a very limited edition version of the Forte, in a different colour, and signed by one of Baratza's two founders, Kyle Anderson.

Note: I bought this grinder in 2013 for ~80USD, when they were selling for $129 new. Got it cheap because it had a few dings (cracked hopper and a few cracks on the plastic chassis). Repaired what I could then, upgraded some parts and it's done a good job at home for me ever since. If you want a versatile grinder that will last and that you can service yourself for cheap, the Encore is still the way to go.

Calibration achieved - moved the screw towards the center to make the grinder a little better at coarse grinding (cold brew, French press) while still being good enough for a moka pot. Without an espresso machine I don't need a finer grind anyway.
Sorry about the coffee dust, I did this after a test grind.

Burrs have been changed back to the original ones (which are better for coarser grinds than the Preciso burrs), cleaned the copious amounts of coffee dust inside the grinder and changed the gear, which got damaged when something got jammed - lost a few teeth in the process. Will be grinding coffee after I come back home.
Edit: stayed longer than expected at home, so I had time for a test grind - looks good, but I will need to adjust the calibration screw.

I also changed the gearbox when I changed the burrs, so it won't be the first time I took it apart. It's been a while, so I'll be watching videos and reading guides first.
I'll see what else might be broken now - the good news is that getting parts from Baratza is pretty easy and way cheaper than buying a new grinder (or at least it was).

Earlier today I grinding coffee beans for cold brew and I missed a small pebble that made my Encore very unhappy. Hoping the motor is still fine and that little rock is just jamming it still - I'll be disassembling the grinder tomorrow to see the extent of the damage, possibly replace the burrs as well (I replaced the original burrs with Preciso burrs when I still had an espresso machine, but kept the old ones just in case).
Hopefully I can repair it.

@coffeegeek I cannot agree with you more! I have first hand experience with Baratza service. I have a Preciso grinder that suddenly stopped working. It was many years old. They offered to service it for free - I was lucky that I didn’t have to ship it since they are located in Bellevue,WA. They called me a few days later and it was ready for pickup. This was during Covid too! No company every provides free service once a product is out of warranty. Kudos to #baratza #Coffee

This little known grinder is Baratza's full blown commercial grinder. It is like a Vario-W on steroids. It also is their only grinder that easily switches between grind by weight and grind by time.
We're revisiting this grinder this summer on CoffeeGeek. Meanwhile, he's Coffee Kev's first look at it, from 1yr ago, one of the only reviews recently on Youtube.

It's interesting that #Baratza Grinders literally never go on sale. They have their set price, and that's the price, year in, year out.
There used to be a cheaper way - Baratza would sell grinders in their refurb category on their website, but they no longer offer this.
Sometimes, vendors will do combo packages which will discount Baratza grinders. That's the only way to save money on them.

After completing the monster review for the #Baratza Encore ESP #grinder, moving on to getting our updated, 2023 edition of the #Breville Smart Grinder Pro review out the door. This one's a bit easier, as it's a re-write (with new testing) of this swiss army of an entry level grinder.
